Wait, so in Utah 78% of people have a denomination, and in Maine only 23% do? Either we've become a lot more irreligious or I'm misreading this.

Glad to see the 3 states that could pass gay marriage are red. Not that it helped with Maine 3 years ago. ( But with this issue 3 years is a long time)

I messed up when describing it. It pertains to Christian adherents only. Here is the criteria for how adherents are determined:

I compared this to McCain's vote share in 2008; I got a correlation coefficient of ~0.36; I would've assumed it to be higher but you have outliers like DC and MA on one extreme and AK and WV on the other.

Also, what's up with Maine?
