William IV was the last monarch to appoint the Prime Minister against the Parliament's will.

As hinted before by Xahar, Elizabeth II picked the Prime Minister (Home) from possible conservative candidates, since by 1963 there was hardly a mechanism to elect the new party leader as we can see today.

Edward VII pretty much initiated entente cordiale through his personal influence (although he wouldn't be able to do a jack without the government agreeing), and took a lead in modernizing the navy. He was more a goodwill negotiator than person of actual authority, which is a good description of monarch's power today.
