Four years after the collapse of the Democratic Republican party, the party system seems to have settled down. President Henry Clay and his National Republican Party are attempting to hold off former Senator and General Andrew Jackson and his Democratic party. On one hand is Clay, standing for nationalist policies, internal improvements, the National Bank, and tariffs. Jackson however is campaigning on the opposite, states' rights, the destruction of the National Bank, and freer trade.

Clay in a heartbeat over the pro-slavery, Native American-destroying Jackson.

Voting once more for fellow Kentuckian Henry Clay.  We've made a lot of progress the last four years and we will not be turned back by Jackson!

I think Clay would have been a great President. Jackson had good aspects, but also pretty horrible ones.

FTR, both Andrew Jackson and Henry Clay owned slaves.  In the antebellum period, this was hardly unique among either presidents or presidential contenders.

Henry Clay because I believe in tariffs and internal improvements.

Andrew Jackson is my choice because he opposed tariffs (well, in rhetoric anyway), internal improvements and national banks. Clay's National System makes me cringe.
