Does caffeine use even count as 'recreational'? Wikipedia says it is, so I guess it is, but the term doesn't seem right because it's not like people drink caffeine to have a good time - it's more often just to wake up.
it is psychoactive and (is intended to) enhance experience, however defined. that some people might need it to wake up is instead indicative of a person's caffeine
dependence; similarly, some persons need a drink of alcohol to get going in the morning, others a bong rip, still others a line of cocaine to the dome.
