Akin's favorability rating is horrific yet he only trails by six with a lot of undecided voters remaining. Undecideds are breaking for Romney 81% to 13% and Missouri wants a GOP controlled Senate (48% to 41%) so he can still pull this off.

Dangit, we could be on our way to a Senator Steelman right now. Sad

She would have been up double digits. Easily.

A sack of potatoes would be leading at the moment.

And, if the RNC and Senate campaign had been advertising heavily about McCaskill's husband cutting corrupt deals in the Senate dining room, Akin could be leading now.

This election is pretty much over. It'll get closer on Election Day, this being Missouri, but I don't think Akin can get across the finish line.

Assuming you care about the Republican Party and conservative movement (such as it is), particularly on an 'image' level, tmth's counterfactual would, I imagine, be a good thing. Yours...debatable.

I've noticed it's frequent for certain subsets of bad posters to lack avatars.

Me too. I'm not sure why they're so fond of eschewing avatars. Personally, avatars are one of my favorite things about this site!

One thing I noticed about PPP's polling in this contest is that they had Akin leading by one not too long after the rape comment, but then they started including the Libertarian candidate's name (Dine) in their subsequent polling which has all shown a wider McCaskill lead. They do ask a question without Dine, but it comes much later on, and it causes a lot of people of be confused and pick "Undecided" instead.

It's just a hunch, but I think this race is going to be a lot closer than people expect come election day. I really, really doubt the libertarian is going to get 5-10% as PPP has been suggesting.

Or Brunner, Blunt (Matt not Roy), Luetkmeyer, Graves, Emerson, Talent, Schweich, Kinder...

.....Ashcroft.

Yep, just about any other MO Republican would be ahead right now.
