Daily Kos & SEIU. 10/18-21. Likely voters. MoE ±2.7%

Romney 48
Obama 48

This is a seperate and distinct poll from the PPP daily tracker, which shows Romney up by 2 (49-47). It is worth nothing that Markos of DailyKos says that the daily tracker for Monday showed a 48-48 race too.

A tie in the popular vote is a win for President Obama because he would be winning the states that he must win by smaller margins than the margins by which Mitt Romney wins his sure-thing states.  The Republicans will likely have an average win well over 10% in such states as they win while the average for President Obama will be something closer to 5%.

The political era that began in Presidential politics in which strategy trumps substance  -- 2000 -- is still here.

I was hoping for a slightly better result for Obama but I'll definitely take it over last week.

I buy it !

In the last several years, many conservative voters have reidentified as independents because of the Tea Party. This both increases the gap between Ds and Rs and makes the Is more conservative in their voting.
