Obama could actually win all 9 swing states......a week ago I didn't think this would be possible.

If Civitas has it that close, then it really is still a race there, because they lean Republican in their polling.

Excellent news. Despite Republican bluffs, they still can't put away North Carolina.

That's right, I think they'll win it in the end, but they can't relax.

Odd some polls are showing NC better for Obama than VA.

Interesting, the in-house pollsters who know the state like the back of their hand (PPP and Civitas) are calling it a dead heat, while outside pollsters are giving it to Romney

I trust the local knowledge more

Interestingly this poll has 75% white 22% black, in 2008 it was 72%/23%. If Obama can get black vote to match 2008 he still has a good chance to win NC.

How about in Michigan then? Foster-McCollum-White and their ilk.

NC has the largest black population of all the swing states by far. They were only 12% of the vote in MI in 2008. This is probably why Team Obama drew the line at keeping NC in the battlegrounds but didnt contest IN or MO like they did last time. The variances of the white/black vote in NC polls creates an even bigger difference than the white/Latino  split in NV polls. Obama is actually spending more money this week than last week in NC. They are still paying more attention in other states, but they are not giving up on NC. And being that NC is a must win for all Romney paths to 270, Karl Rove's SuperPAC is pouring huge money into NC this week. Romney is also still advertising there. The bottom line is that while NC is probably going to Romney, it is still being contested.

If NC is a Romney win within 3 points, Obama probably wins VA

If it's true... I bet at least some of that is social and fiscal moderates in the Hampton Roads area that really do want to equip all of their hundreds of new battleships with horses and bayonets, because hey that's what makes the local economy run.

I think this is a fairly famous state black electorate for better-than-average turnout, but I'm not sure if there's been much increase in that demographic vis-a-vis whites in the last four years (white population is still increasing in this state...)

I find it interesting to note, looking at census quickfacts: that NC is apparently 8.6% Hispanic - not insignificant and possibly growing faster than either blacks or whites?  In any case quickfacts has the non-hispanic whites at 65%, though of course that's not the electorate, just the population.

Some of the whites moving in are going to places like Raleigh and have advanced degrees. Explains NC's changes more than black turnout. That said, same changes have took place in VA so Obama will almost certainly win it before he sniffs NC.
