This has been debated a lot in IRC. Lots seem to think that while lots of Americans think Mormonism is weird, it promotes a good wholesome image, and if a candidate was known to go to a church where a bunch of tattooed, pierced youngs came in ripped jeans and did a lot of handraising and jumping it would come across as sacriligious and be a much bigger turnoff. I think that's pretty silly but worthy of a question...

Any candidate who can't sit still for five f-cking minutes would struggle.

How many hipster Christians are there in America, anyway? Has demographic analysis of this clearly important group been done?

Yes. Visible tattoos, tunnel plugs, those tiny fedoras. Nothing about hipsters feels"presidential".

Those people tend to adhere to the "emerging Church" school of Christianity, which combines evangelical views on social issues with progressive views on economic and environmental issues. It's kind of like liberation theology but for First World white people who don't really have anything to be liberated from.

You couldn't get on a major party ticket to begin with. Republicans wouldn't want someone so unfriendly to oil and mining companies. Democrats wouldn't want someone so fervently anti-choice.

Hey now I am pro-choice. If there are pro-choice Catholics there can be amongst us too.

The average president is 55. No one is still a hipster at 55.
