This is like a Democrat representing Eastern Tennessee, it just feels so wrong. Hopefully this error is corrected tomorrow.

Obama's margin in this district seems underwhelming, so I think Nolan is really doing better.

If Nolan doesn't win this fairly comfortably then the House Democrats are going to have an awful night.

Yeah, this was pretty off.

Nolan will be representing the Iron Range again after thirty-two years out of the House (is this the longest Congressional hiatus ever?). Wonder what that'll be like for him.

Well he didn't represent the Iron Range before (he's from around Brainerd), but yeah that's one hell of a hiatus and it's crazy how different the area is now.

...Oh yeah, Oberstar represented the Iron Range for like forty years, didn't he? Pretty sure it was always the 8th, too.

What did the 6th look like in the seventies anyway? It can't have been today's Bachmann district...

It sort of fanned out from what are now outer Twin Cities suburbs to the South Dakota border.

This one really seems like a correction, which is good to see.

So not only an entirely different part of the state but an almost opposite one, geographically. Interesting.

If it was now outer Twin Cities suburbs on the north side, that area is now in the 8th. As is Brainerd. So there'd be some overlap.

Can't find a map via google.

Nolan represented the 6th. So it didn't even include Brainerd back then, though that's where he was born, he did go to St. Cloud State University so that might've been where he lived then. The only county in both it and the current 8th is Mille Lacs. So yeah it essentially is a completely different area, but with his roots in Brainerd it shouldn't be too controversial. Cravaack only won Crow Wing county by 4 points, it was won by Romney by 13 points. That also means that Nolan will have represented both the most southwestern and northeastern points of the state.

Interestingly Cravaack outperformed Romney slightly in St. Louis County, but underran him in the southern exurban counties where he was actually from.
