If it is Menendez, then maybe it isn't. It might actually be Lucas Papademos.

I could easily see it being Menendez and he certainly fits the bill.  But I could even more easily see it being some random staffer or nothing.  Also, Republicans who think Menendez would resign are deluding themselves.  It would have to be Foley-level for that to happen, me thinks.

And he looks sleazy enough to do that.

Ah, the DSK principle.

Drudge says it's a "powerful Senator", not a random staffer.

Drudge says a lot of things, very few of them true.  Not saying it isn't a Senator, just saying this is Drudge not the New York Times.

Seeing as it's Daily Caller, it could end up being nothing at all. If they really had something big on a Senator, I'd think they'd release it right away. I presume it's some sketchy story from the friend of a friend of a janitor who cleaned up a coffee spill of an intern for some random Senator.

DSK is sleazy enough. Even if he managed to beat the rap in NYC.

Regardless of who it is, if they are dumb enough not to pay their hookers, they reap what they sow.

He's male
He's a current senator
He's a democrat
He's running for reelection
He's "powerful" so I guess that rules Casey out Tongue

Guys, assuming for a moment that this actually is a real story, I'm thinking the Senator is from out west somewhere.

The only male Democrat running for reelection out west is Jon Tester -- the second-westernmost Democratic male Senator seeking reelection is Sherrod Brown...but Tester doesn't fit the 'powerful' bill. I wonder if Drudge means it'll affect the campaign, not that he's running for reelection...in that case numerous names open up, including Reid, Baucus, Bingaman, Conrad or Wyden (G-d I hope not, he's principled) off the top of my head. Maybe Ben Nelson could screw y'all over one last time, that seems somehow appropriate.

Menendez still seems to be the best bet if you don't think this is out west, but if you do then it's either Tester or someone not seeking reelection in 2012...

I haven't agreed with you on much so far, rookie, but I can't argue with anything in this post.

It would hurt Romney if it was someone like Orrin Hatch.

Rubio has had some weird stuff in his background.

But I think it will be something harmless for some Democrat in a safe Democrat state.

For the record, Menendez has been divorced for awhile so we wouldn't have the distraught wife standing by her man issue. And he's apparently already known to be a womanizer. Then again, this is politics...

Rumor is that it involves a Senator flying to a big donor's Caribbean place for orgies with hookers that didn't get paid.

Too bad it has to be a Democrat; there are so many more amusing options on the other side of the aisle if this is the scenario. Guess I'll have to settle with Mark Warner (gee, that's certainly not the first time that particular sentence has been constructed...).

Menendez does sound plausible.

Taxpayer funded trip? Possibly underage hookers? Oh, Bob. This seriously couldn't happen to a better asshole!

I'm pretty sure underage Dominican hookers would be enough for Senator Joe Kyrillos. I wonder if this story was actually suppressed until now -- timing seems perfect. Long enough for everyone in NJ to hear about this, but not long enough for the reversion to the mean to take place.

That's who first crossed my mind.

By the way, this scandal could mean Senator Booker. If Menendez resigns, you know Christie will do that.

No, now isn't a good time, due to the unfortunate tragedies of Hurricane Sandy. A better time would have been a week ago - with the hurricane occurring, Menendez wouldn't have had time anyways to recover.

Can we all just take a moment and shaking our heads at the Democratic party's latest front in their War on Women? It's just so disgusting.

Burnish his nonpartisan credentials, get rid of formidable rival? I hope he wouldn't if actual control of the Senate weren't at stake, I suppose otherwise it's harmless.
