Dark red = at least one per every 800k people.
Medium red = one per everyone 800k-a million people
Light red = one per every million to 1.25 million people.
Light blue = one per every 1.25 million to 1.75 million people.
Medium blue = one per every 1.75 million to 2.5 million people
Dark blue = one per over 2.5 million people
Gray = No Apple Stores

Hawaii has the best ratio, one Apple Store per every 458,270 people. Indiana meanwhile has one for every 3,258,461 people, the worst amongst states that have them.

My state of Salzburg has 530.000 people and 1 official Apple store.

So, we would qualify for Dark Red ... Wink

Huh? There are no Apple Stores in Austria.

McShark has 10 stores in Austria. They are official Apple shops:

That's not an official Apple store (as similar looking as it is), it's an Apple Authorized Service Provider. Still third party owned and operated. The fact that these exist though may be why Apple hasn't been very eager to get one open in Austria.

is there supposed to be a political correlation here?

Just an economic one. Apple Stores are generally only found in high-rent areas and in "nicer" malls. As I've told a friend, if you're walking past an iPad billboard in Los Angeles, you're in a real upscale neighborhood.

Interesting.  Here in Thailand everybody's got a Smart phone (I don't know if they're apples or some kind of initiative brand.. like what, Samsung?) - the great majority of my students have smartphones, and play with them continuously.  It doesn't seem that up-market as I think most of them have allowances of just $150-300/month.

I bet most of those are counterfeit. Thailand is a massive hub of counterfeit phones.
