Paging Jeb Bush.
Your party needs you.

In the aftermath of Tuesday's election losses, Republicans have been scrambling to formulate a fix for what went wrong.

A big part of that calculation involves repairing relations with Hispanics, the fast-growing electoral power base that rejected Republican Mitt Romney's "self deportation" immigration solution and voted for President Obama in numbers that exceeded 70 percent.

And they'll need help from influential Republicans like Bush. The former Florida governor, a brother and son of former presidents, has long advised his party to take a new tone on Latinos and immigration and to "get beyond where we are," as he said during the GOP convention.

The election thumping at the hands of Latino voters was so severe that GOP House Speaker John Boehner stunned his Democratic colleagues by calling for comprehensive immigration reform, something he has not advocated previously.

Modern "conservative" ideological bankruptcy is what went "wrong."

Jeb Bush will only help the party if he stops whining that people still blame his brother for being a terrible President.

Jeb Bush is old, fat, gray, and bland. He is not telegenic at all, and his family brand is still a millstone. He's one of those figures that the media drums up as a terrific candidate but then would go on to to epically flop in the primaries due to a lack of appeal.

Too bad, a lot of Hispanics are pro-social justice because they're Catholic, as well as below the poverty line.

They could possibly get the Hispanic middle class however.

But can Jeb Bush, or someone like him, step into a leadership role in the Republican party without getting into a fight with the evangelicals and tea-party?

No, Bush can't. It has to be someone new like a Rubio for instance.

Also, the Republicans aren't not going to be able to out amnesty the Democrats with OBama in office. Whatever passes will become his success and his legacy. So for Republicans who think that is the silver bullet, they better stop and think about doing what is really important and that is retooling their policy war chest and then aggressivly marketing a small gov't platform to all Amercians with Hispanics and Asians topping the list of course. It requires someone to think outside of the box and so far both the reaction to the defeat and the mistakes that led to it in the first place are both being driven by the same poor conceived and simplistic thought process.

The Republican ideology is the really huge problem, but another is the fact that their uncle Tomás is a Cuban, for gosh sakes.  That has little appeal outside of Florida.  And besides that he's quite the paleface.  They need to get a really Hispanic-looking Hispanic - someone Mestizo.

Jeb Bush is literally the only white man in the Republican Party who can speak with Latinos without instantly offending them.

If only this was true, unfortunately "I got mine" is very resounding with the white voters, despite the terrible delivery. I don't think a slight inability to message it will be much of on obstacle, seeing as the Democrats did not go into the political wilderness after the 1970s where they lost any shred of coherent ideology.

GOP -

How about this, instead of nominating a token Latino, why don't you actually try to moderate your stance on the issue.

I don't.

Remember, it is their fault partially that the party is in such disarray now and they are the reason the brand is so tarred to begin with. We could have easily have ended up like the GOP in the 1930's, as a result of all the crap they let slip by from Wall Street to Bagdad.

It isn't about tokenism and I wouldn't even think of the possibility of Rubio as a contender if he was bland and boring "just another GOP Senator", regardless of his Cuban origins. Lets say this were Mel Martinez for instance, instead. The answer would be no.

And if any Republican does seriously think it is that simple, "nominate a hispanic, demographic problem solved", they are seriously delusional. If Republicans win Hispanics, it will be on a message anchored in economic freedom and opportunity, education reform and other such issues. The reason Rubio has such potential, is that he can deliver such a message with passion and some charisma.
