if Al was chiming in on the Assange saga being a postmodern hack thriller novel... what is this?

A made-for-TV movie on some bizarro-universe version of Lifetime whose target audience includes men, maybe?

The real elephant in the room is, of course, that perceived physical attractiveness neither justifies nor excuses otherwise unjustified or unexcused adultery.

since we all would have eaten from the Apple shouldn't we not blame Adam for having done it?

For pictures...

Paul Broadwell, the biographer for Dave Petraeus

This is emerging to be the funniest affair in a long time.

His mother... erm wife.

I will not post a reply to these two posts for a couple of reasons...

1)  I don't want to be hit with 10 death points for being "inappropriate" (code word for speaking the truth about the elephant in the room).
2)  I don't want an absentee mod who doesn't bother to read 99% of my posts to come in and read a factual objective statement by me to summarily declare I want to kill all females.

Elephant is an interesting choice of words Wink  But no matter, Badg and Moderate are as reasonable as it gets....so post away Smiley

General John Allen, the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan, has also now been implicated in the scandal: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/13/john-allen-petraeus_n_2120609.html

Are you happy now, the gays?! Look at what DADT repeal has wrought!!!

Arguably so, but false premise.

Broadwell has bigger problems now....classified material she stole was found in her home.  This is also very bad news for Petraeus.

This is a Shakespearean sex comedy, of course.

So it will shortly be revealed in the final act that everyone was actually just having sex with their spouses after all, in an elaborate scheme of mistaken identity and disguise?

No need.  It is monogamy which needs to be excused.

Yeah... this is why it mattered.  Not the affair.  Yesterday, one of the news stations (ABC or NBC--I don't remember) was talking about, we'd never do this to Eisenhower, because he was successful in his military campaigns.  Yeah, well, Eisenhower didn't end up having our classified information end up in the hands of his mistress... there's a difference.

No need.  It is monogamy which needs to be excused.

It's easy enough to 'excuse' monogamy, since it is currently normative and if anything needs to be made more normative than it already is.

Obviously it's not practical or pragmatically desirable to exclude all admitted or proven adulterers from high office or other trusted positions, as much as we might like to, but this instance is particularly egregious, both because of the sheer number of amoral, perverted-in-a-boring-way (straight adultery is undoubtedly the most tiresome form of sexual deviance in existence), overly powerful white people involved and because Broadwell ended up with classified material.

So here's a likely reason (among others) why Petraeus had to resign...

If he's on the list (and I've never heard that), he would be very far down.  I thought it would be limited to people at DoD.

From what I can tell, this article is inaccurate.  National Command Authority requires the POTUS and someone at DoD, usually the Secretary of Defense.  DoD has its own succession, which does not include the CIA Director.  He's not part of of DoD.

The guy at the bottom of the list is the General Counsel of the Air Force.  Smiley
