George Entwistle has resigned as Director General, as a result of the latest Newsnight fiasco. He was DG for about two months.

What next/where does this leave the Corporation/etc?

I'd imagine that this is the end of Newsnight - it sat on one story and jumped the gun on another that was completely inaccurate. It'll probably be best for the BBC to replace it with a similar, but not identical show with a different presenter.

The BBC needs privatization. Its ridiculous that people are still paying the licence fee just so this wretched hive of scum and villainy (this quote never ages) can cover up criminal evidence against its employees, whilst eagerly piling in to indict an innocent man (who also just happened to be a right-wing Conservative politician and friend of Mrs Thatcher Wink )

Per day, the licence fee is actually cheaper than a copy of The Sun, oddly enough.

Yes, that is the solution to all problems. Smiley

Another right-wing Conservative politician and friend of "Mrs Thatcher" has already been mentioned, and is widely accepted to be guilty, though he's long dead, FTR.

As you can't libel the dead, Peter Morrison. MP for Chester 1974-1992, a junior minister and Party functionary in the 1980s, and Thatcher's PPS in 1990. He ran her unsuccessful internal re-election campaign that year and did a spectacularly bad job of it. There have been all kinds of rumours about him for decades (he was a well known closet case), and they re-emerged this October as actual accusations, initially from Rod Richards (controversial former Tory MP and former leader of the Welsh Tories for all of five seconds in 1999), and then from other sources.

The BBC do have a habit of seemingly focusing more on right wing faliures than center left wing's ones even when the center lefts faliures are more grevious than the left or right's. Expenses Scandals involving, for example, Dennis McShane? Hardly mention he's Labour. Involves A Tory who claimed 2k for a Duck House, or a traditionalist, Eurosceptic socialist? Keep digging it up, allow people on panel shows to mock it until its a zombie stallion. All comedy is left wing on the BBC and C4 though, despite the fact there's a lot less to laught at about UKIP and the Conservatives than with the GOP or CDU.
I'm not sayin that represents all BBC content though.
The only vaguely right wing stuff on the BBC these days is Top Gear. (and possibly, just possibly, Ian Hislop on Have I Got News For You)

Genuine question, can anybody name an explicitly right wing comedian currently active (I'm not talking a Manning or Davidson). That, more likely than the BBC is the reason for any comedy bias.

There is no funny right-wing comedy. I'm not sure of the reasons, but it's been proven over and over again.

Since you mentioned Top Gear and left-wing comedy...

Yes, that's the problem - the only right-wing comic characters people tend to know these days are left-wing satires on them.

If there was a decent one there, somebody might take it.

Let's make a joke about someone who isn't white, male, heterosexuals, and christian, just because they aren't explicitly that, then it's most on the left's humor that dispersal.
The fact that most comedians today genuinely are not funny may have something to do with the fact that they are mostly left wing.
Oh, by the way, it's not enough for comedians or BBC employees to attack the left,
reason is "Labour /LibDems/Greens/RESPECT aren't left wing enough", you have to air attacks from the right to be genuinely unbiased

The quality of the programme has been in obvious decline for a couple of years now anyway; I used to watch it as routine, but now do only a couple of times a week (if that).

The duck house and moat cleaning better exemplify the sort of out of touch bollocks that the expenses scandle played to, even if they weren't the worst in financial terms. It's pretty obvious that there's more comedic value in those for panel guests than swapping flats and even then, the joke of two flat MPs has been done to death - but because loads of them were doing it, it's a joke about general MPs.

All comedy is left wing on the BBC and C4 though, despite the fact there's a lot less to laught at about UKIP and the Conservatives than with the GOP or CDU.

Top Gear vaguely right-wing? It's more right-wing than the vast majority of comedies are left-wing (not targeting minorities for jokes =/= left-wing). Besides, why on earth would they be focusing on foreign right-wing parties, that most Britons haven't even heard of? C4 is a different channel, so I'll have to object to you casually dropping them in as evidence for your whinge.

Oh, by the way, it's not enough for comedians or BBC employees to attack the left,

That's twice you've conflated general BBC programming with their comedy output in your attack, so let's get this straight: do you think beyond comedy the BBC is biased to the left? There's plenty of attacks from the Right on the BBC to be seen, most of their news coverage is right-wing (being that it slavishly follows the Tory press' line) and Andrew Neil is all over the f**king gaff. Newsnight and QT clearly aren't left-wing either. It's clear that the BBC try harder to 'balance' their political coverage than they do their comedies, but it's self-evidently obvious why that is - most of their comedies aren't political, nor is there a plethora of right-wing comedians to choose from even if they were to be so ridiculously anal about balancing every programme they dare broadcast.

The Audience on Question Time is most certainly left wing biased.
The panels are ok, on too many episodes it seems people went in just to make farmyard noised at Tory MP's.

The Audience on Question Time is most certainly left wing biased.

Looking at the current opinion polls, the electorate is also left wing biased at the moment. Tongue
