Based on his positions and that he endorsed Obama, I can safely say he's caucusing with us.

This would only be interesting if Republicans had the majority.

Such an egotist. Tongue

The only way this would be news is if he tried to do what that Senator from Oregon in the 1950's attempted to do. Essentially create a one man caucus, by placing a folding chair in between the two sides of the Senate chamber.

He supports Obamacare and gay marriage. Why would he caucus with the Republican minority?

The only reason King needs to caucus is to ensure he'll get decent committee assignments. He'll obviously go with whichever party offers him a better deal, probably "renegotiating" every two years and forcing the parties to fight over him every new Congress. The GOP has more to offer him, because the Democrats don't want an unpredictable guy like King holding the deciding vote on any important committee.

Honestly, I wouldn't be too surprised if King tries to get Reid and McConnell to cooperate and guarantee him fairly decent assignments without needing to officially caucus. King obviously doesn't want to have anything to do with a party label.

If he gets a decent guarantee without caucusing he'll take it, otherwise he'll go with the better deal the GOP will probably offer him (it's worth noting he's met with Snowe, Collins, and McConnell at this point, but no Democratic Senators).

King would caucus with Dems if it were the deciding vote. As it is not, he'll take whoever offers more.

Did neither party offer him a deal? The HuffPo article contains no details except that Reid rejected his request for Snowe's former seat on the Finance Committee.

I doubt that Mitch McConnell can offer him anything. His caucus would have been greatly displeased if he gave plum committee spots to an Obama supporter.
