The GOP needs to modernize, change dramatically and do a 360.  I think they should drop the 'GOP' from their platform and come up with a creative name.

I don't think this is the root of the problem...

How do they plan to do that when the BASE of the party is socially, still living in pre-1990s time, not to mention when a good chunk in the deep south is still fighting the Civil War?

I really don't think a 360 will create the desired effect

I haven;t been here in awhile but the GOP got routed on election night in my opinion. They lost Asians and Hispanics by very wide margins. Forget about the white vote. Obama won because of his coalition of minority's(Asians, Hispanics, and Blacks and the LGBT vote.) He lost whites by 20 points and indies by 5 points. If I were the GOP I would have called an emergency meeting of party leaders to modify the platform very quickly. They think its the 20th Century its not.

I know some of the base of the GOP are upset at the party because they are going to make a deal wih Obama on issues like taxes and immigration. They don't have a choice but to make some of their base mad at this point. They have to make deals on immigration and taxes to show voters (mainly Hispanics, and Asians)that they are willing to get with the program.

This is the party that refers to 50 year old members as "Young Guns."

You know who else thinks 50 is young? My 78 year old grandmother.

All the Republicans really need is a better candidate than Romney running against someone less charasmatic and powerful than Obama.

Hillary would be almost as charasmatic and powerful as Obama.

And Democratic politicians. Don't be silly, in politics 50 is young.

True, in national politics it is. But in the House of Representatives, 20s, 30s, and early 40s is young. 50 means you've been there long enough to become Majority Leader and Whip.

That's an incredibly bigoted statement and a complete lie.  The people in the Deep South who were still fighting the Civil War were Democrat because it was Democrats who supported the Confederacy.  I'm a Northerner, and you could say that I'm still fighting the Civil War, which is why I am a Republican.

.  . . . . . . . . .  .. . .
This is part of the problem with today's political world.

People fighting fights that already have been fought and completely ignoring the ones that need to be fought today.

That is all I'm going to say.

I now understand the reason for the '1854' in 'Oldiesfreak1854'; it appears to be the year he's apparently living in.

I think he thinks he's John C Fremont.

Yes, that's right!  That's all it'll take.  Just do nothing and see what happens next. Smiley

You're fighting the Civil War?  Against whom?  The South is on your side now fella and they have hijacked your party.
