Pat Buchanan and GHWB both seem to be in okay health.

It was never Pat Buchanan.  The case against him is strong, but his noted craziness about personal loyalty pretty much eliminates him from the list.  Besides, Buchanan had no motive.

Your most likely source of "Deep Throat" is still this man from everything I have ever read.

Fred F. Fielding, Dean's lawyer.  Counsel in the Reagan White House, Bush transition team in 2000, 9/11 commission last year.  Senior partner in a major DC law firm.

Very possible.

'Deep Throat' was probably made up to sell books.

He was appointed to the Supreme Court by Richard Nixon.

I'm starting to think it could be Rehnquist. At the time that Deep Throat was leeking all this crap to Woodward/Bernstein, Rehnquist was a a high profile Justice department official.

Not true.  Rehnquist was appointed by Nixon to the Supreme Court in 1971, and the Watergate break-in was in 1971.  I'm not saying that Rehnquist couldn't have been Deep Throat, but he was not in the justice department in the aftermath of the Watergate break-in.

Where you read about GHWB? I've heard that recently as well.

Ah, wait, I think I confused the 1972 presidential election with one of the Springfield mayoral elections. Cheesy  It really has to be Hal Holbrook. Wink
