Eh, I'd be more of one if kings and queens gained their status through some form of sortition. I will say I think you're articulating a falsely teleological view of modernity and how it influences political development, but I'm pretty sure we've had that conversation before.

1979-1990 = rather less than 125 years. I'm not sure what the occupancy of a hereditary ceremonial office that only exists because it proudly flouts its pointlessness has to do with anything.
