Waste Reduction Resolution[/b]

Section 1

Immediately following the passage of this resolution, the Senate will appoint a select committee of Senators.

Section 2

The role of this new committee will be to identify 20 sources of wasteful spending on behalf of the Federal Government.

Section 3

The definition of wasteful spending will include, but not be limited to the following:

                   a) Outdated Domestic Contracts

                   b) Outdated Defense Contracts

                   c) Overlapping Departments or appropriations

                   d) Appropriations where less than 50% of the
                       appropriated monies are utilized

Section 4

The committee will report back to the full Senate their findings and recommendations, no later than one calendar month following the passage of this resolution.

Section 5

Per Section 4, the Senate will take a vote on a bill following the recommendations of the committee once those recommendations have been debated.

Section 6

The President Pro Temp of the Senate will have full appointment, removal and reappointment power over the committee.

I strongly support this, although in addition to section 6, I think that we should have senators proclaim their desire to be on this committee, so the PPT will know who to pick from.

Good idea, Supersoulty. I've been championing the principles of Reinventing Government for some time now. Glad to see we have others on board.

Oh, I didn't even know anyone was paying attention to this forum at this time.  I've been waiting until after the election to start up the Senate process again.

I would personally prefer it if it left as little up to the PPT as possible, given that I've always hated subjectivity in government.

I support this bill, fully realizing that most of the stuff the Senate's already passed might fall under its cutting knife here.  Smiley

I would assume the Senate would decide itself on whoever the Senate wants on this committee.  That's how the bill specifies it.
