Nothing against the principle, but I'd prefer we pass a less imperial version of such a bill. I'm also slightly uncomfortable with the cross imagery.

I'll propose an amendment to this end after the Senator has given his reasoning.

Contrary to Article I, Section VI, Clause 6 of the Constitution and should be removed from the floor as unconstitutional.

Edit- Or you could just relabel it all as medals or something.

Senator, you have 24 hours to start explaining this.

We need to honour our eminent citizens. Most other counties, monarchy or republic alike, do have orders of merit and it is for shame that we do not have one.

Contrary to Article I, Section VI, Clause 6 of the Constitution and should be removed from the floor as unconstitutional.

Edit- Or you could just relabel it all as medals or something.

Several republics have order of merit, there is no reason to assume that we could not do so.

Nothing against the principle, but I'd prefer we pass a less imperial version of such a bill. I'm also slightly uncomfortable with the cross imagery.

I'll propose an amendment to this end after the Senator has given his reasoning.

An Amendment:

Most countries, even Republics, don't have constitutional bans on noble orders being established.

I wouldn't consider giving distinction award to citizens by an order of merit a title of nobility.

It is a bit like having a Hall of Fame with different levels.

Except we already have a Hall of Fame with different levels. Congressional Gold Medal, Congressional Silver Medal, Congressional Bronze Medal, Presidential Medal of Freedom, Presidential Citizens Medal, etc. This bill would create a sort of peerage as part of Simfan's ever-persistent quest to make us a plutocratic aristocracy.

We do? Er, okay then, I don't see any need for this.

Motion to table.

What is this "Usa"? If this "Usa" has these things, why does it matter? Atlasia does not, even if "Usa" does.

I believe much of US law has carried over (pre-2004). As there has been no law to repeal it...

Why limit the number of people who can be a holder of each award?

Also, to be honest... I'm not much a fan of these types of things, only because I feel like they become a popularity contest. It's why I never really venture into the "Opinion of _____" forum community threads. And it's not just because I'd be an HP. Tongue

I think five ranks is too much. Three is more than enough. Suppress Companion and Member and I'll support it.

I mean, also... We already get people leaving the game because they're pissed off that they didn't win an election. So now we're going to give people more reasons to be pissed off?

All I wanted was to give people the chance to wear sashes and collars and ribbons.

Seeing no objection, the amendment has been adopted.

No sh**t, you are the sponsor of the amendment, aren't you? Tongue

This word suppress I am seeing more and more lately, but I don't care for it very much. Wouldn't "remove" or "strike" be more appropriate and fitting for this. Suppress tends to indicate a temporary holding of something down, which implies it may spring back up. That isn't how legislation works. Well unless you have a delayed implementation scheme going on but that wouldn't serve a purpose here, I don't think. Its a more money thing.

A motion to table has been filed by Senator Simfan, but I haven't seen a second anyway at this time.

What is the next order of business on this bill?

Lets hold off on the tabling for a moment - I actually think allowing the President to recognize the contributions of Atlasians with some kind of award is not a bad idea, so here's my different bill amendment -
