Nay

But I'll support a slightly modified version if Drj101's amendment fails.

If Tmthforu's amendment does pass, I'm going to make an amendment to remove clause 3.  We shouldn't name this the "Mideast Governor's Scholarship" when the idea came from an Assemblyman.

I was just thinking of a generic name - Indiana uses it

I would hate for this entire bill to fail due to a lack of desire to compromise, which is what will happen if we go through with DRJ's amendment.

If TexasDem supports my amendment than the bill will pass regardless of whether you veto it or not.

Also, my amendment is a compromise. As I stated above, I have two priorities for changing this legislation. I am willing to give up one for the other, which is what my amendment did.

Drj, I plan to support your amendment, but if it's the final version of the bill, I will not vote for it because I'd like some other modifications to it first, such as standardizing GPAs, allowing home school students exception to the minimum GPA rule, and EFC formula's addition into the bill (because there's no way I can stomach the government paying fifty percent of public college costs for those who really don't need it (e.g. multi-millionaires). Is there a previous bill in the Mideast statute which had a form of EFC in it that we can apply to this bill?

I'm fine with all of those amendments.

Assemblyman Drj101 could just accept your amendments as friendly, so that we can get to this as quick as possible.

Here's the amendment I would prefer. I don't know if the EFC section is adequate or if we actually have a Department of Education, but I'm assuming we do for the latter.

Clause 4 is too vague - it doesn't outline what the limit would be or anything.

Hmm, are you okay with 60% of the total cost?

Potentially - I'll need a GM analysis before I make a decision, which could be a while.

In the meantime, would you be okay with me putting that as the cap in the bill? I think it's pretty reasonable, but I'd be okay with 50 or 55% too.

Fifty is a good number. Like I said, it may be more or less, depending on an analysis.

Voting is now closed.  The AYEs are 2, and the NAYs are 3.  The NAYs have it, and the amendment has failed.

TexasDem, is your amendment in its final form?
