Where is she getting her data? If my recall of Stephen Pinker's comprehensive analysis of violence in Better Angels of Our Nature still serves me, this is only true in the northern United States. The murder rate among southern whites is much higher than in most European countries.

And most rational people would be more scared of these type of lone wolf attacks, as opposed to gang violence which usually affects gang members themselves.

The most realistic, attainable goal in the present gun debate should and can be to minimize the number of spree killings that take place.

"Intimate" gun violence (i.e. people killing friends/family/acquaintances in closed settings in small numbers) is never going to be eliminated by gun policy. Depending on the motivation for the violence, the gunshot murder might just be replaced by some other method of killing. My only advice there is don't do drugs, live in a good neighborhood and give a wide berth to any crazy people you know personally.

Crime overall tends to occur in more impoverished areas and blacks are disproportionately poor. Black areas with higher incomes have less crime. For example, in L.A., upper income View Park-Windsor Hills has very low crime, whereas very low income Watts has high rates of crime. Watts is 38% Black, View Park-Windsor Hills is 86% Black. "Intimate gun violence" is down hugely from 20 years ago thanks to smarter policies by law enforcement. 100% elimination isn't possible, but reduction very much is. I am also pro-drugs within reason.
