I'm talking about Paul himself here mind you, not his supporters.

Remember that Paul has explicitly condemned both birther and 9/11 truther theories, and is not a raving black helicopters type, and has never claimed Obama is a closet Muslim or communist or anything like that.

Hard to say.

His understanding of finance, banking and monetary policy is tantamount to a conspiracy theory, perhaps.  The gold-bug theory he espouses is certainly ignorant and deranged.  I don't know if that's technically a conspiracy theory though.

But, then the question is: Do mainstream Republicans believe in birtherism?  I would bet that most of them only pay lip service to the Obama related conspiracy theories to keep within the good graces of the Glenn Beck and lunatics like that.

Generally speaking, yes. Many mainstream Republicans, whether they follow Beck or not, seriously think Obama is a socialist out to destroy us on purpose.

Most politicians are less conspiratorialist than the actual "rank and file" voters who support them.  Conspiracy theories are rampant among people whose understanding of politics is paper thin.  I mean, reality's messy, and conspiracy theories are neat and tidy, so they're a convenient tool used for making sense of the world among those who don't know any better.

Just about any politician is less of a conspiracy theorist than the rank and file.

He himself, probably not. His supporters are, however.

Hard to know what he really thinks, the only thing we know for sure is that he certainly has profited for espousing conspiracy theories in his newsletters.
