The thing is is that a lot of the non cold war left at the time was too young or didn't have enough experience to run (Don Edwards, George McGovern, Gaylord Nelson). Some ones who might have been good would be Mike Mansfield, J.W. Fulbright or Emmanuel Celler.

They would lose badly. Kennedy only won because he was able to portray himself as the tougher anti-communist than even Nixon. Any nominee who doesn't do that is defeated easily.

RF should of been prez, instead we got a vietnam LBJ prez, which lead to watergate. RF no nam no watergate.
