Tonight (that is, Saturday night, March 9) is the Gridiron Club's annual dinner.  It's one of the closest things you get to politicians doing stand up comedy.  Obama's speaking this year, but so are Bobby Jindal and Amy Klobuchar.  Politicians with national ambitions who eventually run for president have been a frequent fixture at the Gridiron Dinner.  On the Democratic side, for example, Hillary Clinton, Obama, and Edwards all spoke there before running for president.

Unfortunately, it looks like we won't get any video coverage of it this year unless someone sneaks in recording devices:

http://www.politico.com/blogs/media/2013/03/dcs-gridiron-club-on-the-griddle-again-158827.html

but still, post any reaction or leaked jokes here, as I'm curious to see how Jindal and Klobuchar perform in such a situation.

It's going on right now.  Jindal's apparently making a lot of Indian jokes.  From Twitter:

More Jindal jokes (edited to condense quotes, so as not to violate copyright):

http://www.nola.com/politics/index.ssf/2013/03/jindal_draws_laughs_at_dc_dinn.html

"You may not realize this, but even though the president may look calm and relaxed, he is sitting here right now shaking in his boots. He's terrified that I'll upstage him again - like I did in that State of the Union response a few years ago,"

"[After my State of the Union response], people wrote and said a lot of mean stuff," [though when they spoke to me in person they were] "as kind as can be.  But there was one exception to that. My dad. He called that night and said simply this - 'I told you to go medical school.'"

"The Menendez scandal is disturbing.  Soliciting prostitution is completely unacceptable. We would never put up with that in Louisiana."

[Jindal said he keeps telling people that he has no plans to run for president in 2016.]  "I've made that clear, over and over again. In Iowa, in New Hampshire and in South Carolina."

"This (Gridiron dinner) is a place where you can come and tell jokes about the president - poke fun at yourself, set political ambition aside, and just generally say anything you want. Kind of like the Romney campaign."

[Jindal's venture into the slightly risque included a comment about President Obama's recent golf outing with Tiger Woods.]  "Tiger reportedly said the president has an amazing touch. The last time Tiger said that he lost millions in endorsements and a hot Swedish wife."

"This may surprise you, but I'm looking forward to President Obama's second term. It will be refreshing to hear him stop blaming all the country's problems on the last four years."

Jindal should get a job on the Daily Show once he steps down from office. Tongue

I wonder if Jindal actually came up with those jokes himself or if he had a subordinate write them for him.  Good stuff, though.

So at least a little cell phone video footage of this exists, but it's pretty lame.  They did a song for each of the speakers, and here's a rather off key song about Amy Klobuchar:

That's what all these guys do though, I assume.

Some video "highlights" of Klobuchar, with few actual jokes:

The Jindal jokes sound a lot better.  Wish we had some video of him.

That is an impressive array of jokes.  I like these bits:
