The Washington Post polled Maryland voters' 2016 Democratic primary preferences:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/polling/washington-post-maryland-poll-february-2013/2013/02/26/515a36f8-8007-11e2-a671-0307392de8de_page.html

They actually did the poll among all voters, but the relevant bit for a hypothetical Democratic primary is the set of numbers among Democrats:

Clinton 60%
Biden 17%
O'Malley 7%
Cuomo 4%

If you want to expand it to all registered voters, the numbers are:

Clinton 47%
Biden 15%
O'Malley 6%
Cuomo 6%

Yes, that's right.  O'Malley is in third place and single digits in his own home state.

Also asked:

Do you approve of O'Malley's job performance as governor?
registered voters: 49% approve / 44% disapprove
Democrats only: 68% approve / 24% disapprove

If O'Malley was the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee, would you vote for him in the general election?
registered voters: definitely yes 17% / maybe 40% / definitely no 39%
Democrats only: definitely yes 29% / maybe 53% / definitely no 16%

Yikes, that's pretty pathetic.  His overall 49% / 44% approve / disapprove numbers aren't awful, but he is a Democratic governor in a Democratic state.  He should be doing better than that.  Looks like those numbers are inflated by the fact that he has a "D" next to his name.  But even many/most of those Dems who approve of his job as governor don't seem to think he's presidential material.

O'Malley's presidential campaign will be like that of Biden's in 2008.  Absolutely no chance.

Worse than that I bet, considering Biden was a long time, respected (in Dem circles) Senator who many thought was too much of a goofball to be President, where O'Malley doesn't even have the list of experience or the respect. He's the Dem's Pawlenty: Establishment types will drool over him but ultimately he will be the first one to go.

I don't really like him, but O'Malley has a pretty good chance if Clinton doesn't run despite these numbers.  He can run from the left of both Cuomo and Biden and that will get him more support eventually.

What's the point of doing Democratic primary polls that include Clinton at this point? We get it.
