Note to the grammar snob, if Prince Charles at that time was in the position of turning over the  consoling of his sons to their grandmother, then that speaks volumes about his character, and he is truly unfit to become king.

That first comma should perhaps be a colon.

And no it doesn't. My cousin Joe would probably be considerably more poorly-equipped to console his children, or much of anybody, if something happened to their mother than would my aunt and uncle, because Joe's personality does not lend itself well to helping others deal with grief on that level. Yet Joe is not an unfit father or a bad man.

Again, you clearly know a ton about the members of this family relate to one another. Overwrought Diana-worship is unbelievably tiresome.

You have completely ignored my statement, all things being equal.

I myself do not engage in Diana-worship, as you so inelegantly call it, but what is really tiresome is the defense of an anachronistic institution known as monarchy that has long since outlived its usefulness, and  really has no relevance in the 21st century.

You have completely ignored my statement, all things being equal.

Because it's irrelevant, since these are specific people, not hypothetical constructs.

The statement, all things being equal is completely relevant.

Having the requisite qualities, such as strength or ability, for a task or situation.

I am sorry you fail to realize how this fits into this particular situation.

And please, anybody, if you wish to watch paint dry, please feel free to do so.  It wouldn't hurt my feelings one bit.  However, I can only imagine what kind of a mentality it would take to sit there, or stand there, and watch paint dry.  Personally, my mind is too advanced to be of a mind set to watch paint dry, but hey, if your mind finds that sort of thing to be to your satisfaction, and if it satisfies the level of your intellectual curiosity, then by all means, go for it I say.  I won't think any less of you should you undertake the activity of watching paint dry.

You've stopped making any sense even on your own terms. Have fun wallowing in self-congratulatory nonsense.

Of course not; I support the British monarchy, and hope it keeps up the tradition.

Lol!  WTF?

And proud of it!

But on topic... I know people a QUARTER of her age who have been in hospital longer with gastro. Suggesting the SECOND hospital visit in more than a decade is reason for abdication is just unappreciative of how she views the role, nor understanding of her constitution.

Yes, it's not like the lady is on her death bed.  I could see if there was a deep bench you could certainly take her out of the game early, but Prince Charles just doesn't have the gravitas to be taken seriously... particularly in a job that it strains credibility in this modern world.

Does anyone? It's pretty hard to take anyone seriously in a post that has served no governmental purpose for about a century or so.

She is a figurehead.  She does represent the British people when traveling abroad and receiving dignitaries at home.  Part of Britian's standing in the world is due to her and her gravitas.  She is a serious person.  She has met more world leaders than anyone alive today.  There really isn't anyone quite like her.  Obviously none of her children come close.  Maybe it is the end of the line for that institution.

And what else could be possibly do?

Edward VII's life as the Prince of Wales was extraordinary in comparison.

The Monarchy isn't going anywhere... for the first time in nearly 20 years, more people want Charles to succeed Elizabeth over William.

What is interesting is that outside of the 60+ bracket, support for the Monarchy is highest among those under 30.

In the US Charles is somewhat underestimated and not really understood. It was similar in the UK, but as time has worn on, his popularity is the highest it's been since he married Diana. Even Camilla's popularity is on the increase, with close to a majority supporting her becoming Queen, not just 'Princess Consort'.

It's funny, I'm not a Monarchist, nor am I a republican... but there's a lot of blinkeredness going on here.

Would that that would be so.
