I've tried to include absolutely all the names that have been floated around, even the biggest longshots.

Let's run this like the conclave, and have several votes until we get a 2/3 majority. Smiley

Anyway, I'll go for Schönborn. Hopefully he'll get more traction here than he is IRL.

Hopefully not Scola.

The police are breaking into his diocese offices as we speak, for ties to the Mafia.

Hopefully not Turkson either.

He was way too arrogant, already calling himself the successor to Benedict in media interviews, and went on a recent anti-muslim rant.

Ouellet and Scola also seem too book-ish, which Benedict was criticized for. And they really should keep away from Italian Popes for a while, unless they have a guy who is truly awe-inspiring.

Tagle makes sense, if I were a Cardinal. He probably won't shift positions on contraception/homosexuality/female-priests, at least not anytime soon, but I think he has what it takes to deal with the Church's non-doctrinal issues.

And what do you think of Odilo Scherer of Brazil?

I haven't heard much about him, or Schönborn. What do you think of them?

Also, I heard that some  Cardinals were actually beginning to rally around O'Malley, shortly before the doors shut. For his humility, and for his good management of the aftermath of the child sex abuse scandals (O'Malley became the new Archbishop of Boston, and forcefully dealt with similar scandals before it became a national/world story), and has good relations with women and Latinos.

Lets be honest, guys. Most of what we're "hearing" is bs.

Which one is the anti-corruption and pro-liberation theology one from Mexico? I forget his name, but I think he'd be great.

Again from a non-Christian perspective, I can at least respect Schönborn and Tagle.

? There is a Mexican who fits the description?

Voted for Dolan. We need the American Pope here in Mexico.

They're all HPs, but I picked Ouellet due to nationality.

I don't know many of them, but Ouellet is definitely horrible despite being Canadian (he covered up the abuse scandals and he's a boring and awful reactionary). That being said, all others seem fairly horrible for non-Catholics/social liberals, but I guess Schönborn and that Filipino guy might be decent. I hope they choose a non-Italian or non-European, though. But presumably all the Africans want to kill the gays etc so that would not be good.

Scola seems the worst of the major contenders.

I've now heard that Scherer's father's family may have been Nazis, fleeing to Brazil and creating a new name to avoid prosecution?

I cast the first vote for the victor in this poll!

... Of course, that's because I only just voted.

Well, at least he was listed as papabile here.

Not sure where I read it, but he's been accused/criticized of either covering it up or not doing enough about them. I know that some organization recently put him on their list of 12 bad guys who had covered up the abuse scandals. Whether you take this seriously is up to you... (not that it matters anymore)

It sounds like Francis will be the kind of Pope I wanted... one who focuses on social justice and social outreach, someone with energy and humor and warmth and humility
