1948. The nation looks back on twelve years of Democratic rule under President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Following the end of World War Two and his fateful choice to drop the atomic bomb on Japan, Roosevelt would face a new threat: The Soviet Union. Weary from years of war and general fatigue from ruling the nation for over eight years, the aging Roosevelt would act in ways that would be criticized by opponents both on his right and left. While he would agree to send funding to countries resisting communism, and would bolster Europe with the Marshall Plan drawn up by his Secretary of State, he lacked the intensity which allowed him to stare down Nazi Germany and rally the country. On his right, Republicans have attacked his failing to properly face communism as a threat, and some have even favored isolationism over internationalism. Meanwhile, some on his left, represented by a number of Socialists and his own Agriculture Secretary, would claim he was unfairly pitting the United States in a "Cold War" against the Soviet Union.

Now, the nation's aging President has agreed to step down, leaving his Vice President the defender of his legacy. Vice President Truman faces a challenge from the party's right in the form of Senator Richard B. Russell of Georgia. Meanwhile, a small group of liberals is backing former Ambassador Paul V. McNutt. Meanwhile, the Republicans are facing another climactic battle between liberals, progressives, conservatives, and moderates. Running are Governors Thomas Dewey, Earl Warren, and Harold Stassen, and party icon and 1940 nominee, Senator Robert Taft. The Socialists are looking to renominated Upton Sinclair, though former President Thomas is back at his usual antics, and Wisconsin Governor Daniel Hoan is hoping he can be a dark horse at the convention. As well, two tickets are formed in protest of the Democrats. Governor Thurmond, a Southern who supports Russell, is running given the lack of a chance that Russell will be nominated. Wallace, meanwhile, a former Democrats with Socialist sympathies, is running as a "Progressive", in the tradition of Theodore Roosevelt (ironically) and Robert La Follette.

As usual, state any preferences for Vice President.

Wallace/Sinclair Progressive Unity ticket!

I'd be fine with this, too. None of the Democrats this cycle are getting me that excited (and by that I mean I actively dislike Russell and McNutt, and Truman's okay).

Why would Henry Wallace not just be a Socialist?

Why would Henry Wallace not just be a Socialist?

Due to the sad fact that this is still anchored to the election that actually happened and not a fully functioning alternate universe. I could make one of those, sure, but this isn't it.

I hope Cathcon will hear the Will of The People and make them run together instead of splitting the progressive vote.

Though a Sinclair/Wallace unity ticket makes more sense, since Wallace's only experience is Agriculture Secretary and Sinclair was the governor of a large state.

We must keep a strong line with the Soviet Union...if only until Stalin is gone.

These four words never precede something that actually indicates that you're not racist. I suppose some of your best friends are black?
