No, I hate the idea of it as a holiday because I don't want a tragic day celebrated by a bunch of advertising bull$hit and barbecues.
I agree with you though Memorial Day is a far worse offender. Americans don't understand solemn holidays.

Three ones I voted for were Super Bowl, Election Day (ideally they'd move it to a weekend like normal countries do it) and Patriot Day.

Aren't most offices or whatever shut over Christmas anyway?

Christmas Eve is already basically a holiday.  A lot of companies, as morgieb eluded to, are already closed both the 24th and 25th.
