A new pope has been sworn in. He is a Jesuit, and chose the papal name Francis. He is 74 years old. He is the first pope from the Americas.

Known for being somewhat unorthodox, he choose the papal name Francis for the patron saint of the city that he was the archbishop in.

Archbishop Edmund Gerald Brown Jr. of San Francisco, son of California Governor Edmund "Pat" Brown has been chosen to be pope. He became a Catholic priest after joining the Jesuit seminary, Sacred Heart Novitiate.

Your reaction?

Here is a picture of the future archbishop in seminary school.
