Maybe we could have a Batshootery megathread for all these gadflies? Wink That said, Bachmann being Bachmann. Yawn.

I actually like the Teabaggers on this issue.  They are opposed because they are afraid it will kill people.  It's wrong, but it's a good intention.

The Romney establishment crowd is up in arms because insurance companies only get to profit on 15% of premiums now.

So, Bachmann being Bachmann. No surprise.

That being said, though, what this so-called "healthcare" will do is utterly obliterate the poor, something more competent systems like the NHS completely avoid, but that's beside the point.

Don't blame Minnesota at large. Blame the 6th district.

I don't understand why they would vote for her though. Their PVI is only R+8, which I know isn't that close but its not like this is TX-1 with Louie Gohmert in an R+21 district. Even if she thinks like Louie.

Bachmann runs a very dishonest campaign in her own district painting her as an independent by focusing on how many times she breaks with the leadership in votes, never pointing out that these breaks are mostly on negotiated compromise bills with Democrats and nonbinding resolutions.   It always seems to work, but I think it's starting to crumble now that more know who she is nationally.  She'll be finally out in the next Democratic House pickup (2016).

She wins because a large majority of GOP voters are paranoid crazies, even in a state lik MN, that isn't traditionally thought of as nutter territory. I wonder if the healthcare law will kill people before or after their vaccines cause mental retardation.

Bachmann is just a symptom of a much larger problem - that most Republican voters probably share her  anti-science and paranoid world view. Would be interesting with a poll to see how many agree with these comments...

And they shouldn't be. A 15% effective cap on profit margins sounds much sweeter when you consider you're also getting a guaranteed floor of demand for your product from just about everyone under the age of 65.

Health insurance companies are going to be the 21st century equivalent of what utility holding companies were in the 20th century - the most boring business you could possibly be in, but one that lets its management and employees sleep soundly at night and provides fat dividend checks for retirees.

Guys, a Medical loss ratio is not the same as profit. That 15% that is not spent on health costs is not just profit, but costs related to overhead, and the various mechanisms health insurance companies put in place to avoid adverse selection. Health insurance companies don't make more than a 2-4% profit margin, at best. If you want a villain, look at those lovable hospitals (omgz, children's hospital, how cute! Let's donate some money to them)who make close to a 10% profit margin (even the non-profit ones). The demonization of insurance companies is misplaced.

Seriously, everyone needs to read this. Take an hour out of your day and read this before you think you are qualified to talk health policy. Obamacare was aimed at the insurance companies. Obviously something more is needed because all Obamacare will do is raise premiums, and it won't go to fatten the insurance companies.

Yeah... at the end of the day, Michele Bachmann is still an emotionally driven person... and her avid opposition to Obamacare really probably is out of some misplaced concern that it will hurt people rather than help.  Unlike the cool and calculated complete lack of sympathy or empathy that many GOPers have.
