Religious beliefs are beliefs independent of whatever moral beliefs that you might have - including the opinion that bigotry is inherently wrong, which is completely implied in your question.

What is the question exactly - whether they are sometimes used as such? Whether they are valid excuses that one should accept? Whether they may be valid excuses in certain circumstances?

Yes, religion holds people back from self-actualization.

Question doesn't really make sense; bigotry is not a thing that you either have or you don't.

Yea question should be rephrased: "Are (strong) religious beliefs excusable?"

Religious beliefs are used as excuses, but they are not valid excuses. How should I vote in this poll?
