The 1910 UK General Election begins with H. H. Asquith as PM and leader of the Liberal Party. The 1906 election was a landslide victory for the Liberals and Campbell-Bannerman, who resigned due to illness and died in 1908. The Asquith Ministry embarked on extensive reforms in social welfare and fought a naval arms race with the German Empire. In 1909, the Chancellor, Lloyd George, produced the provocative "People's Budget" which raised taxes on the rich to pay for the Liberal Reforms and the arms race. The Tories used their majority in the House of Lords to reject the budget based upon "the lack of an electoral mandate" which sparked a constitutional crisis and another general election.

The Conservatives are running on a platform preferring to keep the high tariff rates as opposed to raising taxes and to protect the Lords veto power. Though they were soundly thumped in the 1906 election, their spirits are soaring and under Arthur Balfour seem eager for the fight. The Labour Party did exceedingly well in 1906 and now led by the talented Arthur Henderson, have the ability to stand in just over 100 seats, hoping to hold the balance of power. Labour generally support the reforms of the Liberals, but believe they don't go far enough. They are advocating complete abolishment of the Lords, something that even the Liberals are not advocating.

One day to do it. Will the Liberals get their famous reforms through?
