Coupled with his bizarre comments on evolution, he just may be the dumbest neurosurgeon around.

This guy is a predicament: the people of the party who love conservative figureheads and celebrities (ala Palin, Cain) are going to salivate over his candidacy, but I'm not sure it's going to pan out for him.

I don't think it will. Sadly, this is what's wrong with my party. We latch onto figures who have no shot of becoming president and diss figure who do.

Ugh, I'm so sick of this guy. The only reason conservatives love him so much is because he had the nerve to publicly criticize the President at a non partisan prayer breakfast. They were kind enough to invite him to speak, and he uses the opportunity to score a few cheap points with the Fox News crowd. But I guess the more disrespect you show to Obama, the more popular you become with those people.

I really really really hope he decides to run for president. He'll crash and burn fabulously.

This guy will never have the success that the Cain Train had (at some points).

At least Herman Cain made my home state more interesting. It was great to watch a native son crash and burn so spectacularly. By the way, Cain was actually not well known in Georgia before he ran for president, even though he briefly ran for the senate in 2004. When he burst onto the scene, Georgians were thinking the same thing as everyone else..."uh....Herman who???"

So basically he is like every other Republican front runner?  Hardly newsworthy.  What is newsworthy is how he threw in bestiality and NAMBLA.  There is a way to support traditional marriage without using those kinds of slurs against gay people.

It is remarkable that a DOCTOR would be so clueless that traditional marriage is something that is a relic in today's society and it was heterosexuals that destroyed it.  You go into any Baltimore emergency department and you will see the rubble of so many heterosexual marriages.

What is newsworthy that nobody seems to want to focus on is Ben Carson's tax plan based on Biblical tithes.

The man is crazy and way out of his depth.  He is best going off and working in a windowless operating room somewhere.

And now he apologizes for his remarks:

King was absolutely right: as soon as a light was spotted over him, he crumbled completely. Not that that's especially surprisingly, but still.

The question is, does this make him more or less likely to run for prez. Has he learned his lesson to not say what you say to you conservative friends when you are on TV, even on FOX. Or does being vilified make him gun shy.

By the way this eruption and Rance Priebus recently having to defend the GOP platform calling for constitutional amendment banning gay marraige shows how this issue isn't going away for the GOP.

The GOP clearly doesn't get it. They aren't bigots for misinterpreting the Bible; they're bigots for trying to use the State to discriminate against fellow human beings. They're free to not support gay marriage but they don't have the right to trample on the freedoms of others in the name of their god.

The sad thing is is that many Republicans think a black, anti-gay candidate with solid conservative credentials is the perfect way to win over black voters.

Weird how my alma mater has produced some of America's greatest minds and also, like this guy, some of its most challenged.

This I agree with.  I like Ben Carson, but he'll get burned during the primaries and general election.

I really hope he picks up steam and runs, since he'll push the other Republican candidates hard to the right.

I doubt him running will effect anyone. Even if he somehow gets nominated, Biden/Clinton/Whoever else will beat him.

I like that the overwhelming response to Republicans' inability to understand any differing points of view is to find people who fit the demographic requirements of the dreaded "diversity" while simultaneously attempting to tack further to the right, particularly on issues that aim to damage the rights of those very minority groups they need to consider in order to survive. Good luck with your all-new, minority-laden stable of unelectable radicals! Wink

Meanwhile, someone who was on the fence about marriage equality heard this and thought to himself, "yikes, I do not want to be associated with people like Carson."

You really would have thought a doctor at least understands the concept of consent, but I guess not.

Paul Broun and Tom Coburn are both doctors. We have to put the test the idea that someone smart enough to be a successful doctor can't also hold enough extreme, intemperate views to host a conservative talk show.
