I've always perceived the vowel in "king" as identical to the sound in "keen", but Wikipedia tells me that that's a special characteristic of California English.

Rhymes with sing, thing, ding...the "ng" that follows kind of alters the vowel, making it a unique dipthong.  I would say its closer to kin than keen.

There are too many people empty quoting that post who don't know the meaning of the word "diphthong".

Generally, kuh-ROHL'.

When I speak English? The vowel sound in "kin". I don't think I've ever heard the other pronunciation from a native speaker. Option 3.

It's that thing where you have 2 consonants together that make a different sound. Like in diphthong.

Option 2 for me. 1 sounds like one of those nasal Great Lakes people.

I can't compute how 'keen' can link to 'king'.

Kin in closer to king than keen.

It's like when people say dee instead of day when saying weekdays.  My old boss used to say "tyuse-dee" for tuesday (tooz-day)

I strongly dislike when people say "yooj" instead of "hue-j" when saying "huge"

Exactly. The Keeng pronounciation would be something along the lines of [kʰiŋ], correct?

Yep!  I mean, both pronunciations will presumably be aspirated in American English.
