There's such an obvious route for CNN to take to become #1 again and they're completely lost.

Cool/hip and opinionated news took down traditional reporting because it was so different and exciting, but now it's becoming part of the stale.  CNN should cancel all these stupid shows and put rugged, serious, hard anchors on camera.  Make their campaign about real news.

That would take way too much effort.

It would be so worth it, though, and the format would attract the cream of the crop in journalists.

It would at least cut into MSNBC ratings, as faux intellectuals who think Martin Bashir is interesting will flock to be seen watching Don Draper deliver the news.

The trouble with CNN isn't bias, it's just how ridiculous it, the irrelevancy of many of the stories it covers, and especially the way it rushes to report stuff even if it has not been confirmed.

As for the going the serious route and attracting great journalists, Al Jazeera is already doing this.

But Al Jazeera has a stigma attached to it with many Americans.  CNN is still a brand that can sell.
