I don't recall a poll of this type recently.

He's certainly not without controversy, especially with the sugary drink limitation recently, but New York City has largely been untouched during his time in office except for a few minor disturbances, although that's not a direct credit to the Mayor, he was still in office while everybody was safe.

So, I'm curious, what are your thoughts on his overall performance.

Didn't know if I should put it in Gubernatorial, US General or FC, so I just picked one at random.  I am open for it being moved.

Why would you think it would belong in a board about the community of the forum?

The funny thing is that this guy was a moderator not long ago.

He has some fiscal strength, but in general, pretty bad. Not completely pitiful though.

All that I know about his mayorship (and all that most people who will end up voting in this poll know about his mayorship, I would wager) are the handful of initiatives that the national media have decided to report, which is obviously not enough information to judge his performance on.

Is "above average" supposed to be below or above "good"?

Decent enough, although with a lot of nanny-stater BS. Probably better than most inner city mayor types though.

I think he's been an outstanding mayor. He's managed New York City phenomenally and despite certain nanny-state policies (cigarettes, big gulps, etc) which I don't agree with, those are small compared to the success he's had.

He was great in his first term (aftermath of 9/11), then he became an absolute nightmare. A big government, nanny-state RINO if there ever was one (and I use that term VERY sparingly, as you know.)  Then again, he only became a Republocan for political expediency anyway.
And before you jump on me for calling him a RINO, I realize he's an Independent, but he was endorsed by the GOP in his 2009 reelection bid.

This. Policy wise he's above average, some of his pettier objectives would irritate me if legislated here , but administratively he's been excellent, a real benefit to the metropolitan area, from what eveidence I can find. I'd vote for him.

Pretty darn excellent, in large part due to his forward-thinking transportation policies.  Doing things like advocating for congestion pricing and installing many miles of bike lanes may rile up the short-sighted, entitled, windshield perspective NIMBYs and thereby make him unpopular, but are quite obviously the right thing to do.  Same goes for things like upzoning Midtown East and encouraging Hudson Yards development- the city absolutely does need more people, certainly at least as long as the country is growing in population it cannot be anything but a net win for humanity to increase development here.

Not everything he has done is perfectly implemented, okay- the way the soda ban was to be implemented raised serious problems with consistency and fairness.  And even though he's been better w/r/t community relations and policing than Giuliani was, there's still lots of room for improvement there, to say the least.

But, on balance, he's done a pretty damn good job.

There are two vastly different, diametrically opposed viewpoints I hold on Bloomberg. My overall opinion ends up in a frustrating middle ground between satisfaction with his effectiveness in a relatively progressive direction and infinite irritation with overreaching PR stunts alternated with complete ignorance of vital issues.

he's virulently antiunion (not surprising for a finance capitalist) and allowed the police to go further than we even yet realize.  yet the liberals love him because he hates guns and cigarettes.  we've already lost.

This. Bloomberg is a terribly conservative politician who shouldn't be given time of day by anyone to his left.

Bloomberg invokes 9/11, Boston bombing and perhaps Newtown shooting in defense of stop and frisk.

Good, above average. But he could be waaaaaaaay better, of course. And I won't support Quinn, I prefer a leftist this time.
