The proposal for the governor to only eat what the poorest can eat is very smart, plus this could help our obesity problem!

You definitely need to give up most prepared foods and basically replace meat with beans for most meals.  However, it takes time to make food from scratch, which is something the working poor are usually short of.
A good chunk of these people are unemployed, they should have plenty of time.  A good chunk of the ones with jobs are only part time, seems like they'd have plenty of time also.  Of course there are some working a couple of jobs, or full time at really low pay or full time and getting paid under the table so they can keep their bennies and they might not have time, but I'm guessing the majority of people getting food stamp money have the 20 minutes it takes to make a real meal.  They chose bologna and chips because it's easier and (in their opinion) tastes better and most importantly, they don't know any different, ya know, the same reason people not on food stamps tend to choose crap food.  Not because they don't have the time.

You have never made a real meal if you think it takes 20 minuttes to cook it, especially a meal without meat.

Yes, because every "quality" meal takes more than 20 minutes Roll Eyes

If she's smart, she'd support this provision in the bill.

First, who defines what is considered "junk food"?  That's such a nebulous term and could be applied in many different ways.  Second, I saw on Facebook that Paul LePage is trying to do the same thing in Maine, and I'm sure other governors are following suit.  Third, why would a Republican governor be trying to do this?  After all, isn't it mostly Republicans who complain about the food police being too restrictive when anti-obesity laws (like Mayor Bloomberg's ban on large soft drinks in NYC) are passed?

And finally, I thought you meant that she was trying to lose weight by eating less snack food. Smiley

First, who defines what is considered "junk food"?

Haley has said her goal is to combat obesity by preventing the use of food stamps to buy “candy and chocolate, sodas and chips,” as the Republican governor put it during a February news conference.
