No. Boehner is smart enough to avoid impeachment in Congress and the Senate would never convict him if it got to that point.

Will the Republicans try? Yes.

Will they succeed? No.

And the GOP knows this. They knew it 15 years ago and still went ahead.

Elected Republicans will click their heels and do whatever the GOP leadership tells them to do. There will likely be some effort to impeach the President at a time intended to hurt the Democrats most.

The idea behind impeachment was to ensure that the President could not get away with taking bribery, embezzlement, being a puppet of a foreign power, lying to Congress, ordering war crimes, or doing violence to his political opponents.

The question is not "if" but instead "when".

No.  The Republicans know that any such attempt to hurt the Democrats will seriously backfire and push the GOP into near irrelevancy for the next 10 years.

Not if the Senate remains in D hands.  If both houses are solidly GOP in 2014, maybe.

Hopefully.  2014 needs to be 1998 redux.

Obama isn't likely to be voted out of office even if the Republicans do take the Senate in 2014.  There will be too many Republican senators up for reelection in two years, then.  The House... might be a different story.

Removal needs 67 votes in the Senate. It would need serious evidence of real high crimes for enough democrats to vote for it: and pretty much anyone would resign long before.  Impeachment in the House only needs a simple majority vote. But, unless there is some serious evidence of some misbehavior that is not even suspected now, Republicans would be nuts to try.

An impeachment trial is possible, but a conviction is not.

I hope so. This is exactly what we'd need to take the House in 2014 and get a filibuster proof Senate Majority.

The economy is improving, deficit falling.   Republicans are lousy at math, computer, they're too inbred to comprehend science, they are the backwash of America.  All they are capable of is impeachment.

I don't think it will happen for a second reason other than the GOP going into the wilderness.  Privately, Boehner and Obama are friends and I think Boehner respects Obama too much to even bring it to discussion, let alone a vote.  Boehner may not agree with Obama's politics, but he respects his friend too much to bring up an impeachment bill.  Furthermore, Boehner still wants the gavel on January 3, 2015 and doesn't want to hand it back to Nancy Pelosi or Steny Hoyer or whoever the Democratic leader will be in the next Congress.

There will be some wrangling with the nutters (which granted is an ever growing portion of the GOP in Congress), and the GOP is stupid, but they aren't this stupid.

You're assuming that Boehner has that degree of control over his back-benchers, which he clearly doesn't.

Will they try? Yes.
Will it work? No, though it might pass the House.

Nah, there are still a couple dozens of half-sane Republicans (as evidenced by the Sandy relief and VAWA votes) who won't get behind this.
