Credit for the title goes to the great Bacon King. The point of this thread is to summarize international elections using gifs, totally unrelated to the election itself.

To kick it off, a really recent one which is really fun:

BC 2013

BC Liberals the day before the election:

BC NDP the day before the election:

BC NDP leader Adrian Dix is asked who will win tomorrow:

What the pollsters said BCers would do to the Liberals:

What we told people who said the BC Liberals would actually win:

What we told the people who were all "THE LIBERALS ARE CLOSING IN"

NDP supporters when the Liberals were still leading on early returns after 30 minutes:

CBC PROJECTS THE NEXT GOVERNMENT WILL BE A LIBERAL GOVERNMENT

The next day:

BC Liberals:

Premier Christy Clark:

BC NDP:

What the BC NDP election night rally was supposed to be like:

What it ended up being:

BC Liberals to BC NDP:

A summary of the BC NDP's campaign:

I can cover any interesting international election. Any requests?

Was the last one not that good or something?

Regardless, UK 2010 will be next and Adam wanted me to do Greece 2012, and it sounds fun as well.

UK 2010
note: my memory of this is a bit rusty and I don't do research for these, so it might not be as complete as some of the others

Gordon Brown replaced Tony Blair as Prime Minister in 2007, he was ecstatic

Would he call an early election?

Finally he didn't and he waited until the end in 2010 to call one. At first the campaign was like

Gordon Brown was boring:

David Cameron was like:

but then OMG we found Nick Clegg and we were like all OMG

OMG Nick Clegg I love you so much I want your babies right now

Then there was that debate and OMG we loved Nick Clegg so much Purple heart 4 EVA

The reaction to the debate was Cleggmania

OK, Cleggmania kind of died down when he let us down in the last two debates but we didn't really care since he was still the greatest

A few stranglers were still hating but

Meanwhile David Cameron was like

And Gordon Brown was all

Election day came and we were all excited. Cleggmania was gonna win! (well not really but the maniacs were crazy)

But it was not to be

The LibDems only won like 23% and crappy third place and even lost seats

The Tories won, but only a plurality in a hung parliament

Yet, Nick Clegg, who we still loved so much, was the kingmaker. Gordon Brown and Labour were like

Hell, everybody was like

Ultimately, our hero accepted a coalition with the Tories. The only condition was a referendum on some weird thing called 'AV'

The Cleggmaniacs were pissed since most of them were lefties who only liked Clegg because Labour CCTVs Iraq police state omg.

3 years later, remember the Cleggmaniacs?

Greece 2012

Before 2009 or something, Greece was like this:

Greeks were chill and stuff:

Politics were simple. You had ND and PASOK (of which I am the sole legitimate leader, see HERE). The differences between both were HUGE. Earth shattering.
ND:
PASOK:

Then the economy went like:

Greeks were like

And the rest of the world said:

Austerity was a great success. Oh wait.

Unfortunately it was time for another election. ND and PASOK's campaign was awful. Summarized:

Everybody started loving old parties run by cranks or crazies or new parties run by cranks or crazies. This included the old KKE (Stalinist crazies)...

... SYRIZA, which quickly became the True Leftist party of choice because ZOMGZ MERKEL NAZIS or ZOMGZ AUSTERITY or ZOMGZ TSIPRAS IS LIKE NICK CLEGG XCEPT ACTUALLY LEFT-WING or ZOMGZ THE BANKSTERS or ZOMGZ THE NEOLIBERALS!!1111

... ANEL, which quickly became the Paultard/right-wing conspiratards party of choice because ZOMGZ NEW WORLD ORDER

... or, more scarily, 'Golden Dawn' (their actual name being Golden Shower), which were actually Nazis. Like actually facking Nazis. Like people who actually jacked off to Hitler

Everybody was like

Except that the election turned out as a massive clusterfark of epic proportions. As for ND and PASOK, the result was clear:

Every other party did well...

even the Nazis.

It was impossible to form a government. Like actually impossible. Merkel and everybody else was like

So... guess what? NEW ELECTION!

This was serious business now though. Basically, according to the austerity masturbators, if ND won the whole world would be saved for nuclear armageddon and we could kill as many poor people as necessary; if SYRIZA won, we were doomed and we might as well commit mass suicide since it was all over. ND wanted everyone who didn't want the whole planet to blow up to join them

... and SYRIZA told us not to worry because if you just raised spending, restore to everything to the good old days and yell a bit at Merkel it would all be fine and you wouldn't have to default or leave the Eurozone. Amirite?!

As for the other parties, we stopped caring by now since it was VRY SRS BIZNESS

Except Golden Shower, which, despite being facking Nazis, just keep doing well...

Merkel was planning to do this if SYRIZA won

Election day came and we were all anxious

Finally ND won and got the lolworthy majority bonus. The majority bonus can be explained easily:

PHEW.

We were saved, but all this sh**t still meant that you still needed austerity and that it would require killing poor people again

In the meantime, Golden Shower had done very well again and all this sh**t meant that it will keep doing better as time goes by...

So we got some ND-PASOK-DIMAR (useless Moderate Hero thing) government.

I wish to use this platform to reiterate that I am the sole legitimate leader of PASOK, and that what is rightfully mine was taken from me by George Papandreou and some fat dude who should lay off the KFC because seriously.

Hey, guess who's back?

Mexico 2012

So, Mexico was gonna elect a new President. From a long way out, the favourite was one man named 'EPN'

A lot of people were gushing about him

But he was from the PRI, which had ruled Mexico between 1929 and 2000, often screwing sh**t up in the process. And also being corrupt, incompetent and most likely in bed with drug lords. So, a lot of other people said EPN was like this

I mean, there's the good chance that he killed his first wife...

Most people thought he was dumb as a doorknob, never having read a book in his life

For example, he was once unable to name any one book that had influenced him besides "teh Bible!!11"

After that, his oldest daughter, PauPen, called those who criticized her dad "prole assholes" who were "jealous"

But for some reason, no matter how dumb he came off as, he was a real teflon.

In general, EPN's campaign consisted of bullsh**t

He had three opponents, two of them relevant. The first one was AMLO, a leftist firebrand who was perpetually pissed off and angry

He had lost the 2006 election by a hair and got angry

The other was a nice lady called JVM, who was nice and probably a good person but really boring so nobody gave a crap

Nobody cared about her

And there was some dude named Quadri who wanted to LEGALIZE POT, so the Paultards started gushing...

but guys he was the idiotic tool of some corrupt union boss

Then EPN won the election

AMLO was like OH HELL NO

Everybody else stopped caring

Back!

Czech Republic 2013

In 2010, a right-wing coalition of three parties formed government. They promised 3 things: fiscal responsibility, rule of law and reducing corruption

One of those parties, "Public Affairs" (wtf) was run by an INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALIST (so kewl!) and was ANTI-CORRUPTION!!1111... Best party ever?

Unfortunately, the government failed epically on all counts. Douple dip recession... corruption...

Public Affairs, as it turned out, was actually run by a businessman who bribed his own MPs to remain loyal. He was forced to resign as minister less than a year later. He later got sentenced to jail (but never went of course) but didn't feel like leaving politics

Obviously the government became as popular as the plague

The government's record:

Then in June 2013, the police arrested a bunch of people including the PM's chief of staff/mistress, accused of bribing three MPs and spying on the PM's then-wife to get him to divorce her

The PM was forced to resign. Meanwhile, the new President, Milos Zeman, elected directly in January, was a crazy man who wants to become dictator. Obviously these developments pleased him

Instead of naming who the right-wing parties wanted him to pick as PM, he took matters into his own hands and named a friend of his

Obviously the right was pissed off and his friend of his didn't get the confidence of the house

Eventually they just called new elections. The big favourites were the opposition Social Democrats whose ideology is being useless at everything they do

Also everybody in the party hates one another

The main right-wing party (ODS) didn't even try, since they were polling f-ing single digits

Some new populist ANTI-CORRUPTION party came on, ran by some really rich businessman

Then another populist party ran by some crackpot Japanese dude who is racist, probably a fascist.

Then the election came and it was a sh**tfest. The Social Democrats lived up to their ideology and did terribly

The populists did very well

The ODS collapsed basically

Everybody's reaction was basically

Nobody knows who will form the government so I guess everybody will be whoring themselves to one another
