Yesterday my friend and I signed the lease on an apartment. This is the first apartment I'm renting by myself (i.e. not through my university). Now we need to call the electric and gas people to have that set up and choose an internet plan.

Tomorrow's the big day: I'm moving into my new apartment! I'm mostly packed, excepted for some food in the fridge, my bathroom stuff, and some dishes that are still drying. If I never post here again, then I likely tried and failed to set up my Time Warner internet at the new apartment because I wanted to save $20 on installation fees and attempt it myself.

Will you be getting the Playboy channel on your cable service?  Smiley

No sir. I require my pornography to be hardcore and illegal in at least one state.

BAD NEWS THOUGH: can't get the key until tomorrow morning, despite what the agent has been telling us for the past two weeks. Couple of greedy c**nts.

Don't do liberal arts. They're all useless degrees.

Isn't liberal arts what one does before law school?

Nah, the best course is to do some hard science, study patent law, and make the big $$$. Wish someone had told me that.

I had two hearings today, as part of my summer internship. The first went pretty well, while the second was adjourned because the other side was sick and couldn't show up. And then I charmed the old black ladies in the file room for a bit to eventually get some recordings of a past hearing so I could listen to that.

Also today, I did not torture any puppies by leaving them outside in the heat all the day instead of letting them inside.

And I got a small chocolate frosty from Wendy's. Twenty calories, max.

I got an A in Constitutional Law! This somewhat makes up for the B I got in Property. Now I just need to hope at least one out of the twenty people I interview for in August likes me.

A few pictures from my trip through mainland China for those who might enjoy them.  The first two are from a rather new temple complex built atop some old sites in Shanxi province called Mian Mountain (Mianshan).  The last one is of an old-fashioned hu tong neighborhood in Beijing.

Wow, those are great!

Have any of my fellow law students (or former law students I guess, though I feel like most of the actual lawyers on this forum graduated from law school a while ago) done EIP or other on-campus interviewing? I'm putting together a bid list for firms right now, and they all look the same and work you ridiculous hours and I have no idea whether I want to do transactional or litigation. I have an appointment with a counselor tomorrow, so hopefully she gives me some decent advice.

Duke just go to lunch with her. When I was interning in Congress, the chief of staff asked me to have lunch with him one day, and he asked me about my plans and studies and interests, and now he gives me references when I apply for stuff. Maybe you're overthinking things.

No Duke, this is the best ever Bushie's dad quote:

"It's a whole different line of work than you're used to, and it may not be the most pleasant or what I would have picked, but hang on to this one with all you've got.  Don't let the Oklahoma wind knock it out of your hand.  Believe in yourself and you can do it.  It may be vacuum cleaners, but hang onto it anyway, your Mom needs to retire."

I had seven interviews today. Six went well I think, one didn't seem to go as well but we'll see. Eight more tomorrow. And then ten more total on Monday and Tuesday.

Christ almighty, what are they for? Clerkships?

Summer associate jobs next year. My school does a four-day long interview program, so it started today and ends on Tuesday. It actually went pretty well (at least I think it did; I guess we'll see if I get any callbacks). I'm really glad I'm not a finance guy or a consultant though, from what I've heard of their interviews (compared to law interviews) it sounds like torture.

I've gotten two callbacks for another round of interviews at the respective firms, and one rejection so far. One I don't really want to work for unless it's the only option, the other I'd really like to work for.

I had my first callback interview with a firm today. Met three associates of varying levels of seniority and a partner. It seemed like a really great place and does interesting work I'd like to do, so hopefully they hire me.

Wow so Torie is a slumlord now? Congrats man! I hope to break into the slumlord business once I've worked as a lawyer for a few years and saved up enough money.

My schedule will be as follows:

3:30 AM Wake-up
4:00 AM Brief Relaxation
5:00 AM Bible Study
6:00 AM Sh[inks]
7:00 AM Shower
8:00 AM Shave
8:30 AM Brush Teeth

Unfortunately there will be no time for making breakfast in that schedule and I'll be forced to pick up a light 1000-2000 calorie breakfast from Dunkin Donuts on my way to work. But that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with that schedule.

I need to pick one more class for this semester. Should I take a class on A) Evidence, B) Human Rights or C) EU Governance?

edit: I guess I can take one on land use as well, but the professors teaching that have never taught it before.
