A resolute yes. Humanity might be flawed, but it's still the greatest thing in the world.

Other: I go back and forth between hopelessly naive idealism and hopelessly pessimistic cynicism re: humanity.

Yes.  Even considering how terrible we can be to one another, we still need one another.

I won't pretend to have an original or interesting perspective, but I do have an opinion and feel like voicing it for no real reason whatsoever.

On the one hand you can't ignore the various cultural, intellectual and material achievements of 'humanity'. On the other, you can't exactly ignore Auschwitz. You can't even ignore the everyday exploitation of humans and the casually brutal despoliation of the environment.

And there we are.

As Al noted, it's a mixed bag. Who knew?

Voted other because I also think it's been hit and miss, and you have to count both. It does seem to me, though, that quite generally the more time that goes by the more nonsense we put behind us because everything - I mean 100% of everything is trial and error. I guess I lean Yes, then. When all we have to rely on is our good sense, there will be some pretty deplorable misses along the way. But I also think those misses are not "the norm" - otherwise we would have destroyed ourselves. I really believe most people just want peace and quiet. Occasionally there have been blips of ugly tribal brutality, but I think less over time and that those are not representative of our species, just some poor ideas and philosophies we have subscribed to.

But I think I'm very much against the word 'humanity'. It sounds incredibly pompous.
