POINT PLEASANT BEACH, N.J. — There may have been no better way to demonstrate that New Jersey’s shore is rebounding from the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy than a visit from President Obama and Chris Christie, the Republican governor, to the football toss along one of the state’s iconic boardwalks.

Four throws later, Mr. Obama had yet to land a fuzzy teddy bear when Mr. Christie lobbed his first ball at “Touchdown Fever,” and scored. The bipartisan high-five that followed was symbolic of the day’s effort to highlight the cooperation between state and federal governments after the storm.

“That’s because he’s running for office,” Mr. Obama joked, after Mr. Christie’s football sailed through the moving tire.

The jovial reunion stood in stark contrast to the grim scene last fall, when Mr. Obama and Mr. Christie joined together for a somber election-eve photo-op, walking through the wreckage of property and lives that the hurricane had just left behind.

In a light but steady rain on Tuesday, the president and the governor worked a rope line along the Boardwalk, which had been partly damaged by the storm. The pair talked to a local sand sculptor who is seeking to build the world’s largest sand castle as a way of drawing attention, and tourists, back to the region.

No fleece? Well, I guess it's too warm for it now... Still, I can't help but be disappointed.

I'm sure Barbara Buono just loves this, not that it matters much and it is related to the recovery, but still. At least Obama has endorsed Christie for re-election, not yet, anyway.

Did they get ice cream and then walk hand-in-hand down the boardwalk together, after that?

After Obama won the plush bear for Christie, they spent a couple of hours in a nearby tavern and ended up singing a surprisingly good a capella version of "Ebony and Ivory." Things turned ugly when someone requested they sing "Accidental Racist."

I was told that it was Christie who won a bear for Obama.

I didn't know Barack was such a chubby chaser.  Did they ride this one?

Wish I had the motivation to photoshop their faces onto that one.

I loved when he had the best bitching voice on.. and said "I don't need these scientists trying to interest me in their esoteric theories"

Such an ignorant, bitchy, but hilarious thing to say.

Guess this means Christie's hopes in the 2016 presidential primary are scotched.

Makes sense considering this is basically how most Republicans perceive Obama...

The people at National Review (at least the ones that comment on articles) are really furious now.

The only people stupid enough to vent in the comment section of most any website and think anyone gives a damn about their opinion are the same ones who also look for excuses to be outraged. Basically: of course they are furious - they take the time to comment on news websites.
