If she retires or dies is this seat a GOP pickup possibility?

McCarthy is my local congresswoman, so I'm a little curious to hear what you think.

no, but the Nassau GOP has plenty of life left in it.  that said it would probably be a 2 or 3/1 against shot in a neutral-ish year.

They are not going to win if McCarthy leaves. McCarthy's gun control politics is very popular here and local Nassau GOP politicians make a living off of attacking the high local taxes. They aren't quite in step on national issues.

It is hard not to have some respect for this woman and I say that even though I disagree with her on most everything and believe she probably isn't the best Rep the area could have at this point. I hope she recovers and quickly.

Can't really see the parts of Long Island close to NYC flipping at this stage, it would require a 2010-esque scenario for it to happen.

electoral-vote.com mentions this as possibly opening the door for Chelsea Clinton, for what it's worth. I find that site usually goes for some outlandish predictions, though.

Thoughts go out for McCarthy and her family. We need people like her to keep gun control alive in the House!
