Okay a quick search seemed to confirm its un-American inhuman to use ketchup on pasta. But I still wonder why, since its basically just a tomato sauce. Too sugary?

As Walter mentioned, something is breaking... Literally...  On the way out the driveway this morning just a couple miles from the house, A rock decided to fall from what looked like an old abandoned building.  It's a little windy today, so the wind probably moved some of the branches of the tree to sweep the rock off the building and right onto the upper half of my windshield.  There is a great big crack in the glass that looks like a big spider from where the rock made impact.  I called my grandmother to get the name of the business she used to get her back windshield replaced after the recent hail storms.  I called them and they will replace the front windshield tomorrow at 11:00 am for $180.  Not bad at all, I think!

Ketchup is far too sweet to use in almost any circumstance. It's basically tomato-flavored candy.

Which is why you mix it with salty fried food. A delicious juxtaposition.

Eating ketchup with pasta is also very common in the Czech Republic, for what it's worth. I thought it was disgusting, but it's actually not horrible, especially if you're drunk at the time.

People actually put ketchup on pasta?!

I think its fairly common unless you have a Mediterranean background.

Dukey and I are Greek, and Phil's Italian, so you might be onto something there.

No, I don't think he is - my family are as pale and WASPy as they come, and such a bizarre and sick idea never occurred to any of them.

Outside our front door this morning was a little visitor - a puppy. She has hung around the porch all day so Mom got her a small bag of cheap dog food. She gave her quite a bit of food and the pup wolfed down every morsel of food. She is very adorable and very friendly, but one person is not happy - the cat. Even though the cat is indoors and the pup is outdoors, the cat had some words for the pup through the screen door. Poor little puppy just got cussed out and an old lady cat. We don't know who the puppy belongs to, and we don't know if she's riding the circuit going to a different porch tomorrow, but for the time she's with us, she will be called Blondie

That was my cat.  I'm talking about Mom's cat.

What happened to your cat? Have you had any crying spells since the last one?

My cat is with my aunt, a cat lover herself, so he is still in the family.  No crying spells.

You can also use it as an ingredient in certain sauces and roux, usually as a substitute for something more expensive or difficult to find.

Seems borderline racist to condemn entire nations to subhuman status because of our love for this exquisite dish. Wink

When I was visiting Berlin, my hostel was in a Turkish neighborhood. They had these little hotdog stands that said Currywurst on them. I thought it must be some cool fusion that would be amazing. Nope. Regular American style hotdog with ketchup and curry powder on it. So gross!

After further investigation, our new visitor, Blondie, appears to have been dropped off and abandoned.  She is very skinny, ribs sticking out, and already had to pull one tick off her.  She seems like she could eat another bowl full of dog food.  We'll feed her again around 18:00 and see what she does with that.  If the pup sticks around, we may have found ourselves a new puppy.

That poor dog. The worst kinds of people are those who abandon puppies like that.

And, of course, the one time we actually need Inks to swiftly act against a disgusting post, he's no longer around.

He will NOT strain himself to lose weight. He much prefers to be comfortable, and if it means he will not lose weight being comfortable, so be it!

I had a Bushie dinner tonight. I ate with my mother at Shoney's. The food wasn't bad, but I can't imagine eating that way all the time. You get an oversized entree, a side, bread, and unlimited soup and salad bar for $9. But it was such a plain, depressing little place.

Shoney's are still around? I remember seeing them off of the highway when I drove back and forth from college and home a few years ago. I've never been, but I imagine they're like most chains.

When you grow up knowing nothing else, I imagine you are used to food like that.

I used to love Shoney's.  They had excellent food.  I haven't eaten at one in at least 15 years.

I'll probably walk again, as soon as I can motivate myself.

Has to motivate himself to walk...yet has no issues going to Kenya and adopting kids.

Shoney's isn't like most chains. Chili's and Applebee's and even Cracker Barrel try a lot harder to be cool, clever, and clean at every opportunity. Shoney's, in contrast, is like K Mart. Depressing, dull, and just limping along the best way it can. The waitress was nice enough but she was just a tired old lady without the pep and ironed apron of an Olive Garden waiter. I'm certain she figured out a long time ago that she's going to be poor until the day she dies.

I'll be doing a lot of walking while I'm Kenya.  Not to mention, all the walking I will do at the airports.
