Both were bastards full of their own vices and faults, and both were men who did great things for our country. Hard to decide. Hamilton seems more personally devious, so I'm tempted to go with Jefferson.

Tough choice, but I'll go with Jefferson.

Hamilton was probably smarter and much more apt as a statesman, but I can't stomach his elitism and authoritarian vision of government. So Jefferson.

This.

Also, I must comment on the intense irony of a few Democrats (a little less than half at last count) going with Hamilton.  I mean the guy's ideology was anathema to democracy.  So what if he supported tariffs and industry.

This is a really tough call.  Both men were FFs despite their faults, but I'm not sure one was more ofnan FF than the other.

If anything Jefferson was more elitist than Hamilton.  The difference was Jefferson was backing a paternalistic elitism of the landed elites, whereas Hamilton was backing a meritocracy rather than a pure democracy.

As for authoritarian, may I point out the embargo and the harshly authoritarian measures Jefferson employed to enforce it?

It truly does say something about Republicans that they are backing Jefferson 3 to 1 right now.

Winner winner, chicken dinner.

Hamilton may have had some sentimental attachment to the idea of monarchy, but his vision of America (and the policies put in place to achieve it) has increased our de facto freedom immensely, whereas Jefferson's vision has done just the opposite.

And, of course, Hamilton was an abolitionist whereas Jefferson owned human beings and used them as sex toys.  Keeping that fact in mind, it's frankly pretty depressing that anyone in this day and age would vote Jefferson.

Jefferson in a heartbeat. Yes he had his flaws but Hamilton was an elitist par excellance.

Hamilton, a thousand times over. I shudder to think what would have happened if Jefferson had realized his agarian wet dream.
