An article from USAtoday:
"A conservative group has come out and endorsed GOP Rep. Shelley Moore Capito's primary opponent for Senate, another sign that the veteran lawmaker won't have an easy ride.

The Republican Liberty Caucus (RLC), which has previously endorsed Tea Party favorites in their Senate bids, gave its support last week to Pat McGeehan, a former member of the West Virginia House of Delegates.

"Pat McGeehan is a constitutional conservative who will stand with Senators Rand Paul, Ted Cruz and Mike Lee in the United States Senate," said Stephanie Butcher, a regional director of the RLC. "His work during his time in the state legislature proves he is the conservative choice in this election."

Republicans have high hopes of winning the 2014 Senate race in West Virginia, where Democrat Jay Rockefeller is retiring. Capito, first elected to the House in 2000, is raising money at a fast clip, and a strong Democratic candidate has yet to come forward.

The Club for Growth and other conservative groups have criticized Capito's candidacy, particularly her vote for the federal government's bailout of banks. But the Club for Growth and the Senate Conservatives Fund, another organization that has come out in the past for GOP candidates outside of the mainstream, have yet to endorse McGeehan, who holds the record for the most "no" votes in one term in the West Virginia House of Delegates."

Capito isn't a constitutional conservative?

She's pro-choice, voted Don't ask don't tell's repeal. She represents the business faction of the gop.
Tennant won't probably run, but she's our best candidate to hold this seat!

It was inevitable that someone would.

This is West Virginia. Capito will probably be able to deal with it.

Please, you guys, don't do this again.  We wasted too many opportunities at victory with unelectable candidates in 2010 and 2012, let's not do it again in 2014.  If we want to stop President Obama's agenda at all, we need establishment Republicans who can win.  By nominating these Tea Partiers, we're only handing seats to the Democrats and letting them keep pushing their agenda on us.

Maybe reactionaries will fly in West Virginia. They did in Kentucky, Florida and Utah. Then again, Missouri and Indiana, not so much. However, I do find it surprising that a Social Moderate Rocky Republican is doing so well in West Virginia's Senate race, even if she was the most senior and high profile GOP politician in West Virginia.

We're seeing these types of primary challenges in South Dakota too... why can't these practically perennial candidates realize that they're only causing trouble and just to let the strong candidates win? This is two cycles in a row we've blown opportunities, and even lost seats for the dumbest reasons. These no-compromise candidates need to learn that they either get a moderate Republican or a liberal Democrat in the Senate. It's not that hard.

They have a right to run and have their voices heard. It just so happens that the GOP isn't appealing to these groups anymore.

There will not be a liberal Democrat freshman elected from WV anytime soon.  Whoever wins will either be moderate or conservative.

On immigration they might as well be Chuck Schumer himself though.

You people are missing the ball. It isn't as simple as Tea Party sucks, establishment Superb. If that is the case, then how are Senators Reherg, Thompson and Allen doing right now? Or Senators Crist, Sestak and Conway for that matter on former point?

It is all about candidate quality, message discipline and organization. Ideology really isn't a factor, at least not in a deep red state like the kind we are discussing. Miller, Akin, Buck and Mourdock would all be Senators right now if they were able to discipline their mouths. Buck was actually less Conservative then Norton on some issues in his primary.

Lets not be a herd, and lets not cover the incompetence of one side by endlessly harping on the that of the other. Focus on what matters in these races.

That said, Go Capito and Go Rounds!!!

Perennial candidates are a problem. They are so for a reason and that is because they can't win the races they are running because they are just terrible candidates. But they keep running either to feed themselves off the campaign cash or hoping that somehow they get lucky. Christine O'Donnell, John Raese, Don Stenberg and Ovide LaMontagne are all in this category.

I'm not saying their voices should be stifled, I'm just saying they should know when to run and when they're only hurting the party brand. I suppose they believe in their ideals to such a degree they that will push their ideologies no matter the cost.

Of course, I wasn't referring to West Virginia specifically, more races like DE and NV in 2010.

Jay Rockefeller's former CoS claims Secretary of State Natalie Tennant met with DSCC leaders and made "quite the impression."

I've said for a while that West Virginia shouldn't be written off, especially if Tennant is the Democrat's nominee.

I agree. I think it's a Likely R until the time comes when Dems decide they definitely don't have at least a decent candidate. WV is trending R hard but it's not Georgia or Texas yet.

See this is what drive me crazy about the tea party is they vote "no" on everything just for some idealogical reason. To me that's crazy.

Tennant was in DC recently to talk to the EPA about coal. She also spoke at a UMWA rally earlier this month.

And to all Republicans on this forum: If Tennant runs, then wins, then runs for re-election in 2020, the GOP will have the option to use "Evict Tennant!" as a rallying cry. If that doesn't sway you to support her, I don't know what will.

She is not going to win, and even if she is the best candidate, she still will lose by 7-10 points.

SMC would be the favorite. I have never said the contrary. But I have the right to be happy if Tennant runs Tongue.
