Some group called the  American Energy Alliance has a new ad out on Rahall accusing him of, surprise, being anti-coal.

The PAC for the Family Research Council (Tony Perkins' group) is endorsing Alex Mooney for CD2.

Despite the carpetbagging, Mooney is doing better than I expected him to.

I don't think he'll do well in the general; any halfway decent opponent will smash him on the carpetbagging.

It's heavily rumored that Mooney STILL doesn't live in West Virginia. If he does, he at least spends most of his time in Maryland.

Mooney might be doing better than expected, but so is Nick Casey.

Will the Democrats try to use the recent chemical spill against the Republicans? ("A vote for [GOP candidate] is a vote to make it even easier for companies like Freedom Industries to get away with incidents like these") And if they do, how successful will it be?

Rahall is finally starting to get his rear in gear with a $425K haul. The filing in WV ends next week, so if he were to retire, it would have likely been announced by now.

Sure.  But the whole thing is illustrative of how virtually impossible it is to move West Virginia forward.  How can you attract anything other then chemical/industrial development to a place that is as toxic as WV?  There's been long-term degradation of water and soil in this region.    Sure it looks scenic but most of the mining occurred before any real environmental regulation and obviously modern day mining hasn't done them any favors.

National Journal on Capito. She cites Murkowski as a Senate role model and is running as a pragmatic problem solver.

I've said before, I'll be endorsing Tennant, but if WV is gonna elect an R, Capito is a good one.

I agree. Capito is tolerable - even by my liberal friend's standards.

Which is what she is: pragmatic moderate. That seat will be hers as long as she wants it.

Is McGeehan not a threat to Capito?

What problems has she solved to be looked up to? Tongue

Anyway, I don't plan on holding this against Capito.

RRH has been doing a good job of keeping track of filings, but here's the exhaustive list of candidates.

That's nice. Although once they get down to the state legislative level and below, I don't really bother. Anything below statewide offices for me is too much info and too specific for me to follow besides partisan control.

The House of Delegates is liable to flip, but the Senate is Safe D.

McGeehan has dropped to a legislative race per RRH. Not that he was noticeable before.

Nice! Democrats start out with an unexpected automatic pickup. Delegate Josh Nelson (R-Boone) never filed.

So Capito is unopposed now? Great.

This really confuses me:
http://www.wboy.com/story/24539759/mike-queen-resigns-as

This could mean that Republicans actually do have a candidate in Senate District 12.....

Damn. Looks like this is one race the GOP won't be throwing away.

Hopefully Tennant can make this competitive. SD is already ceded to the GOP, it would suck to have to give away another.
