I beleive that both TNF and MaxQue wanted to lower the 190 number to 180 and MaxQue wanted to switch over to an hour formate from a day format. So that is two amendments to be offered right there, then we should be finished with at least Section 6 Clause 1 hopefully. Tongue

I think we need to make clear in this legislation as well whether or not Atlasian schools operate on a five day or four day week.

Why?

We have a 32 hour workweek and we have 190 or 180 days in school. It only makes sense to specify when schools are open, since afaik it's not been addressed at all since the working week was shortened in 2011.

Teachers aren't hourly employees though.

I object to this amendment. Shortening the school year does not help learning. I think even 190 days is too short.

Technically we aren't shortening the school year for two reasons.

1) This is just a minimum.

2) The current level is 180 only in the unpassed current text is it 190. Tongue

Really I can go for either number at this point. My main interest was having the system in place that my last amendment established.

Anyway, vote in forty minutes (24 hour minimum here).

Sorry, I have not been following this - it all overwhelmed me a bit. I have Wiki work to do today, so I'm supposed to open a vote - it's open. Go.

Aye. I don't disagree with Senator Sbane but due to the "at least 180" I am comfortable with it.

I wish that we could address the fact that almost all of our public schools shut their doors for nearly a quarter of the year.

Do you mean "summer vacation"? I don't see the problem, you only spend the first two months of the next year going over what kids already learned last year. It's very efficient.

AYE just to get the vote over, as I said I got what I wanted already here.

I wish that we could address the fact that almost all of our public schools shut their doors for nearly a quarter of the year.

Fun fact, there once was a certain poster, from a certain City a few counties North of LA. He suggested that we impose that determination from the Federal Level. This certain poster is no more. Connection? You decide. Tongue

That determination should be made as locally as possible, preferably by the school board.
